She grunted. “Drey!” Her voice was strained. “Stop. Don’t hurt him! Don’t—”

I pushed up, the pain in Sarah’s voice strengthening me. Energy and heat roared through my arms. With a bellow, I snapped my head back, connecting with the guy’s nose, and he rolled to the side.

I hopped to my feet, then charged Sarah and that prick manhandling her.

“Drey! Watch out!”

And my world went dark.

Chapter Forty-Eight

Sarah

“Itoldyou,Rachel.Told you—”

“It’s Sarah. Sarah Meyers, you son of a bitch.” I slapped at his possessive hand on my leg.

We sat in the back of a black car, while his driver zoomed us out of town. The only thing I could see was this guy coming up behind Drey and whacking the back of his head with the butt of a gun.

Son of a bitch! My distraction cost me, too. Nicco got a hold of me and threw me into this car. Damn child locks in the back seat, too.

And now…the city limits sign faded into nothing but a green square.Drey!

“I told you, you’d always be mine. No matter where you went, I would always find you.Always.”

Prick never would have, had Walker stayed out of things. There had to be something back here I could use. Anything…

Oh wait.I slipped my hand in my jacket pocket.Drey’s phone!I pushed away from Nicco to as close to the side door as possible. He grinned, but let me be. Cocky son of a bitch. I couldn’t wait to wipe that smug grin off his face, and hopefully it was followed by much blood and pain!

At least Drey got him good with that coffee cup, and he was bleeding a little.

I slid out the phone and tapped it to life.

Locked! Son of a—

I tried my birthday—minus the year—as the code and it freaking worked. First time? My luck was never that good, was it? Maybe? This could work.

Thank you Drey for using my birthday as your code.

He really did love me, didn’t he? Had me at the forefront of his mind in all aspects if he had my birthday as his passcode.

Damn I loved him. And no matter what, I’d get away from Nicco. Somehow I would. And I would either kill him or go into witness protection. Anything. As long as Drey was with me, that was all that mattered. He was all that mattered.

I clicked the contacts tab and typed Marshal.

Nothing came up.

Hunter.

I pressedsend message. Glancing around, Nicco was busy with his own phone, typing furiously. Probably trying to make plans to get me across the border into Mexico.

Bile swirled up my throat at the thought of heading back there.

I wouldn’t. I’d kill myself before letting that happen.

DREY: It’s Sarah. I have Drey’s phone. Calling you, answer, but don’t talk.

I clicked send, then call.
