“Remember that night those two guys were going to throw punches? You and I were on our way to break it up, but she stepped in?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, it was…she changed during that. You know? Those guys, how she leaned in and—”

“Shit! She went all seductive on them. Flirty.”

“Distracted them. Defused the situation, though, didn’t she? And with you. She tried the same thing?”

“Sort of. Obviously a little different. She was ready to jump into sex, but she won’t even let me kiss her. And I had to twist her arm, not literally, for a date instead.”

“Won’t let you kiss her?”

“Says it’s too personal.”

“There’s some shit going on with her for sure.”

“How’d you get Angelina to talk to you?”

“Took time. But I know how she gotmetalking…” He grinned. “She started telling me about her shit. Little bits at a time.”

“Oh boy.”

“I know you got some crap going on, too, but hey, it’s a start.” He slugged my shoulder. “Pretty soon I’ll be asking for your man card.”

“I should hand it over now.” Yeah, I’d give it up for Sarah. Never thought I’d say that about anyone, but here I was, pining over a girl. Asking advice on how to talk to her.

Yep. Man card was null and void. Now I had to figure out how to get Sarah to trust me with her secrets. And Hunter might be right. I would have to start with the sharing.

Chapter Sixteen

Sarah

“Bill.Youneedmetonight. Bernie and Tish are both sick. I can handle this,” I said.

He loomed over his desk, his palms planted on the top, and he stared at me. “Too much media covering this gig. Not safe.”

“Look at me.” I gestured to my almost all pink hair now, my fake nose ring and heavy makeup. “I won’t be recognized. Put me at the tables farthest from the band, and I’ll keep my eyes open.Plus, it’s dark as night in there and all that smoke.”

“Their security already checked all the waitresses and names.”

“Even better. I’ll be Tish tonight. Besides, if they find out my name isn’t Tish, my paperwork is solid. You made sure of that.”

“No.”

“I’ll be fine.” And I would be. I knew how to keep to the shadows; Head off situations. Well, unless that something was Drey. He put a wrecking ball through all my plans.

“Stay away from Drey, then. He’s on the lead singer. Too hot.”

“Done.”Hopefully. “But you need to tell him—”

“Tell me what?” Drey stomped through the cracked open door.

“Knock much?” I straightened beneath the scrutiny of his intense stare.

He nodded at Bill. “Lead is about five minutes out. Ready?”

He stared at me a little longer, then said, “We’re a go.”
