“And what exactly would that entail?” she asked taking a step back.

“It means, my beautiful Gabby that we start over as far as the martial aspects go. We never had a real honeymoon, perhaps it’s time we did,” he told her as he pulled her up against him.

“I either tell you where the money is or you’re going to force me to sleep with you? Didn’t we already have this scenario play out once, if I recall it wasn’t very enjoyable for either one of us.”

“But this time it’ll be different Gabby,” he said lowering his head to whisper it into her ear then let his fingers trail a path down her neck and to the top button of her shirt. He toyed with the button and she closed her eyes to stop the fluttering of her heart as images of them doing what he suggested flashed through her mind.

“I’ll have to think about it,” she said backing away again.

“Time’s up Gabby, you’ve had six months, more than, to make a decision. As of tonight there’s no more room tonegotiate, I’ll be in bed in ten minutes…if you’re still wearing those pjs, you better have an account number for me,” he stated heading into the bathroom.

“Shit, shit, shit,” she whispered under her breath, adding a bit louder when the water started in the shower, “What the hell am I going to do now Haley?”

“Did you say something?” Wyatt inquired causing her to flip around in surprise.

“No.”

“Funny I could have sworn you said something about Haley,” he said closing the space between them.

“I said I wish you were in hell with Hades, you know the god of the underworld,” she told him.

“No, you asked what you were going to do, to someone named Haley,” Wyatt said narrowing his eyes. “That’s the second time you mentioned her tonight, who is she really Gabby? Your accomplice in this?”

“I didn’t have an accomplice Wyatt,” she laughed her mind firmly made up as the thought of him looking into her relationship with someone named Haley began to produce a series of disturbing outcomes. “It was all on me.”

“Then why suddenly ask Haley what you were going to do?”

“You were mistaken Wyatt,” she said closing the space between them, stopping just out of reach.

“No I wasn’t Gabby.”

“Fine, so I asked Haley what to do…you’re the one who brought her back up to mind. Besides she was the first person I told when I lost my virginity to an asshole and she told me to never let anyone I didn’t completely trust into my bed.”

“Does that mean you’ve made a decision Gabby?”

“You told me ten minutes Wyatt, go take your shower while I finish making it,” she instructed.

“Two choices Gabby give me my money back or be on your back when I get out.”

She waited until she knew he was in the shower this time before letting out the string of profanities that had been damned up inside her. She opened her dresser drawer to call Haley and give her a heads up…give her a chance to get out before Wyatt came after them. She knew she couldn’t go through with it anymore. She needed someone to tell her it was okay to say no, and that person was Haley.

The phone showed a missed message and she pulled up the photo Haley had sent her. Staring down at the grinning five-year-old, her head wrapped in a layer of gauze, she changed her mind again. She would do anything to keep that smile on her niece’s face. She replaced the phone telling herself she could do this, it wouldn’t be that bad, it was just sex.

“Time’s up Gabby,” Wyatt said toweling his hair dry as he entered the room. “I have to admit, I’m a bit disappointed. I was looking forward to using your delectable body…but several million dollars isn’t too much of a consolation prize.”

He crossed the room to her and asked bluntly, “Where’s my money?”

“Gone,” she answered.

“Where’d it go to?”

“You wanted to know where it was, and I told you,” she stated. “Every last penny of it is gone.”

“Give me the proof then Gabby, show me the transactions,” he demanded. She hesitated knowing anyone with half a brain would be able to figure out her trail was bogus including the emptying of the last account. “It’s not gone is it Gabby? I want the account number now…give it to me and I’ll let you keep enough to cover a place to live.”

“Now why would I want to move out of this lovely house Wyatt?” she said with a laugh. “I have full run of this place, credit cards with no spending limits, and an assortment of cars to choose from. Why would I trade all of that for just enough money to cover an apartment?”

“I can cut off those credit cards Gabby.”
