“Nope, I’m not giving it away,” Gabby told them, “the mystery’s part of the enjoyment of it, right Wyatt?”

“You’ve had this before?” Sam asked.

“My reaction to it was the same as yours but Gabby wouldn’t let me get away with not trying it, and once I had, well it’s quickly becoming my favorite things, even if she won’t give me one hint as to what’s in it,” Wyatt stated. “But if you think this is good you should try her chicken casserole; the name doesn’t do it justice it’s more like chicken of the gods.”

“Didn’t know you were getting a gourmet cook when you married her did you?” Viola inquired. “So what else did Gabby keep hidden before you married?”

“Boundaries Viola,” Gabby said sending her sister a smile.

“Right…old habits die hard,” she replied. “But honestly Gabby, does your husband know about any of your accomplishments?”

“Viola, that’s none of your business,” the mother stated.

“I’m sorry I just don’t understand why he would let someone as brilliant as Gabby sit around home all day for when she could be making him a bundle working next to him,” Viola told them. “Do you know our little sister got a perfect score on both the SAT and the ACT, and had offers from every college in the country, including Harvard, Yale, and MIT but she turned them all down? Or that the FBI tried to recruit her after graduation and she turned them down to go to Boston of all places?” she added as Wyatt gave her a long inquisitive look.

“Vi, he doesn’t care,” Gabby said trying to cut her off before something came out that would destroy them all.

“Oh come on Gabs,” Nate stated adding his two cents in, “the first time they showed up I thought you’d finally done something stupid on that computer of yours, like hack into the government’s database, do you know that Gabby can find anyone or anything with her computer?”

“The FBI approached you for a job?” Wyatt asked in evident surprise.

“I didn’t think it was a good fit for me. I wanted something different than what they were offering.”

“What were they offering?” Sam asked. “You never did say back then; you were so adamant about moving to Boston…we assumed she had a secret lover there.”

“Samuel!” their mother said as Gabby covered her face with her hands and buried her head on the table.

“What I’m sure Wyatt knows all about her past relationships…well maybe not about all of them, there was a huge rotating door of them while she was in high school,” Sam said. “What was the name of that loser who took her to prom her freshman year?”

“Bryce Nolan,” their father said. “I can still remember the look on his face when I told him how many friends I had on the police force.”

“Dad bowls with half the police force,” Gabby explained when Wyatt looked confused.

“Really?” he said thinking that could be used to his advantage. “Wait, you went to prom your freshman year? And you let her?” he added to Owen.

“Bryce was the son of his supervisor,” Gabby said. “It was a pity date mostly. His girlfriend of three years had dumped him the week before the junior prom and was taking her new boyfriend. Vi and I had stopped by to get some money from Dad for the bookstore and ran into him. He didn’t go to our school but we sort of knew each other. I felt sorry for him and told him he should just take someone else and see what her reaction was.”

“Which prompted him to invite Gabby,” Viola laughed. “She was too sweet to say no and somehow talked dad into saying yes, technically that was her second prom that year too.”

“Two proms as a freshman?” Wyatt asked.

“Three as a sophomore, three as a junior, and four as a senior, right Gabs?” Nate stated.

“Something like that, all I can say is I’m sure Dad was more than happy to see me graduate and not have to purchase anymore dresses,” Gabby said hoping they were finished with the conversation.

“But that wasn’t the last dress or the last high school dance she went to,” Viola said. “She had to go back to our school for Homecoming to crown the new queen and to the prom to crown the new queen.”

“You were the homecoming queen and the prom queen?” Wyatt inquired.

“You honestly didn’t tell him about your popularity in high school?” Viola asked.

“It didn’t matter anymore,” Gabby attempted.

“Our sister was the brainiac of her class and despite her bookworm tendencies she was also the most sought after and the sweetest, which led her to being miss popular,” Sam said cutting her off. “When she first started dating, Nate and I would drop by the house beforehand or if we knew where they were going we’d figure out a way to drop in on the date.”

“That worked until she stopped having to tell us where she was going,” Nate said.

“Blame that on Dad,” Maggie told them.
