“Yes. The ones who are rehabbing are in another room.”

Two men came up to her, and Tawny introduced Cassidy to her other workers, Alan and Brett.

“Guys, would you mind showing Cassidy around? I need to do some paperwork in the office. I'm sure Cassidy would rather pet some dogs than watch me balance a few numbers."

"I'm happy to be anywhere." She turned to the men. "But if any one of you needs an extra hand, I'd be happy to do anything you need," Cassidy said.

The men smiled. “We can always use the help.”

Tawny told her to take care and then headed to her office. Alan pointed to a few dogs that loved running outside. “If you want to take them outside, that would be great.”

“Let me grab my jacket.”

She went back to the main area and asked for her coat again.

“Going to take the dogs out?” Trent asked.

“I am.”

“Enjoy.”

Since the entire backyard was fenced, the animals could run free. All she had to do was to make sure they didn’t fight with each other, which was why they only allowed a few out at a time.

Once she stepped outside, her body relaxed, in part because being in the fresh, cold air invigorated her.

What seemed like a short while later, Tawny came out. “Aren’t you freezing? You’ve been out here for hours.”

Had she? “I was enjoying myself too much to notice. You have a great set up here.”

Tawny smiled. “I’m pretty proud of it. We do a lot of good for the community. I came out to see if you wanted to go to lunch?”

“What time is it?” She’d forgotten to bring the burner phone, so she was having a hard time keeping track of things.

“Noon.”

“Wow. I hadn't realized it was that late.”

“Come on.”

After Tawny let everyone know that she was headed into town for lunch, and that she’d be back within the hour, they left.

“How are things going with you three? My brother tells me you’ve moved into his place?” Tawny asked.

“I have.” Cassidy didn’t need to elaborate. Most likely Tawny had convinced Zach to tell her everything.

“Nothing to add?”

Cassidy laughed. “The men are quite different, I'll say that.”

“That’s for sure. Zach is the serious one of the two, and Mike is more fun-loving.”

Mike had certainly been more unconventional in the bedroom. “I love being with both of them. They each bring a different perspective to things.”

“I agree, though it is often hard when one of them is working all the time, but at least you won’t be lonely.”

Cassidy was used to be being by herself, but it had been nice to be with two people who were meant to be with her. “Until this mess with Doug is resolved, I doubt the men will let me be by myself.”

“Trust me. Be thankful you have two guys who want you to remain safe.”
