“Let’s go to the front and knock then,”Zach responded.

“I’ll stay back here for a bit in case Cassidy decides to make a run for it.”

Mike hoped she wouldn’t be like that.“Sure.”

They made their way to the front, climbed the three steps to the porch, and knocked. Two people were whispering inside. Most likely, it was Cassidy trying to decided what to do.

“Cassidy, it’s Mike and Zach. Please open up.”

The talking stopped. Soft steps sounded and the door opened. A tall, thin woman, who looked to be in her seventies, answered. “Yes?”

“We are Cassidy’s mates. I’m Mike, and this is Zach. We know that she is trying to avoid the Kitchener Clan, and when she spotted one of them in Wildwood, Montana, she feared Doug Kitchener would come after us. We are desperate to see that she is okay.”

“She’s fine.”

So that was how it was going to be? “Please let us speak with her.”

The older woman blew out a breath and then motioned them in. From the back, Cassidy appeared, and Mike’s body nearly exploded with need. “Cassidy?”

Please run to me. Show me that you care.

CHAPTERTWENTY

Cassidy couldn’t believe her eyes. Her mates were here, and they were safe. “What are you doing here? And how did you find me?”

A moment later, a knock sounded on the door, and Zach’s brother came in. “Mason?”

He shrugged. “They needed my sleuthing talent.”

She smiled. “Please sit down. Can I get you something to drink?”

“Got a beer?” Mike asked.

Cassidy looked over at her grandmother. “I’ll get it, dear. Would you all three like one?”

They nodded. “Yes, ma’am,” Zach said.

“Obviously, you found my note.”

Mike leaned forward. “Why didn’t you tell us you were leaving? You had to know it would drive us crazy with worry.”

“I’m sorry. I freaked. When I spotted Sherman Watts, I figured it would be a matter of hours before Doug and his followers came to Montana. I know you’ve trained a bit, but you wouldn’t have survived against twenty other wolves, even if they were in their human form.”

“You’re right, but why not tell us?” Mike asked. “I’m sure there is a Granger hideaway that no one would find.” He looked over at Zach.

“Yes, between Uncle Garth and Uncle Drew, they have several homes. Since Uncle Garth owns a mining company, he craves sunlight. He bought a second home in the Caribbean.”

She smiled. “Could we go there?”

Zach chuckled. “Grangers aren’t the type to run away and hide. We like to face our challenges.”

Cassidy dipped her head. “I should have figured. I’m sorry.”

“Personally, I’m glad you left,” Zach said. “I just wish we didn’t have to go on a wild goose chase to find you though.”

“I should have let you know, but I couldn’t say anything in the letter.”

“I know, but why not take the phone and call us?” Mike asked.
