Mike held up a hand. “We were only kissing, but yes, we were both in detention for the next two weeks.”
“Good for the dad. He must have known that the two of you weren’t destined for each other.”
“If her father had been a werewolf, I might have said that was true.” Mike grinned and then clasped her hand.
“Too bad you are an only child or we could have learned about some of your embarrassing moments, Cassidy,” Mike said.
“We do have Mindy’s number,” Zach reminded him. “I’m sure she’d be happy to tell us a few things.”
“Go ahead. I didn’t break any laws if that’s what you’re thinking,” Cassidy shot back.
Their drinks arrived and the men tossed them back quickly. Feeling safe for the first time in a long while, Cassidy ordered a glass of Cabernet.
“At least tell us the type of men you went out with,” Mike said.
“Don’t worry. None of them were a match for either of you two.”
They both grinned.
Mason pulled out his phone to check when the next flight to Bozeman, Montana was scheduled. “I’m in luck. There is a flight that leaves at 9:10 tonight and gets in at 10:20 PM. That means I don’t have much time.”
“Once you reach Bozeman, you’ll have to either rent a car or take a bus back home from the airport,” Zach said.
“I’ll figure it out.” He pushed back his chair. “I’ll head back to the hotel to pack and then call a cab to go to the airport.”
“We can drive you,” Mike said.
“No, you three enjoy yourselves. I will text once I'm home.”
He leaned over and kissed Cassidy on the cheek. “I’m glad you are safe. Do what these two clowns tell you, you hear?”
She smiled. “I’ll keep them in line.”
Mason stood there for a moment, most likely telepathing last minute instructions to the men before he left.
“What should we see first tomorrow?” Mike asked her.
Cassidy hadn’t spent any time sightseeing, because she didn’t want to give Doug the chance to find her. “Nana said the Falls are a must see. And there is a five-mile path along the Snake River. Since it’s really cold out, I’m thinking it won’t be crowded.”
“I’m up for it,” Zach said. “We’ll have a good breakfast and take in the sights. Knowing my brother, he’ll call our dad first thing in the morning and then see what Alex and Liam have to say. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have everything organized by the time we make it back home.”
She loved their confidence. “I still plan to keep a low profile until after I contact Doug.” She shivered. “I just worry that something might go wrong.”
“It won’t. If it makes you feel better, maybe Mason has some kind of tracking device that you can wear—just in case.”
“I’d feel better if I were wearing something like that.”
After they finished, they paid and left. It was hard sitting through dinner and not kissing both of them. It might sound selfish, but she was kind of happy that Mason left. It meant the three of them could be together without feeling guilty that Zach’s brother was left out.
They hurried to the truck, and Mike held open the door for her. She climbed in, and then the men got in.
“I didn’t sense any signatures lurking about,” Zach said to Mike.
“I didn’t either,” Mike shot back. “That means we are free to enjoy Idaho Falls tomorrow, weather permitting.”
During the short trip back to their hotel, Cassidy pictured what she wanted to do with them both. Sure, she’d only been gone a short while, but it seemed like a lifetime. If she ever worried whether these men and she were fated mates, she could stop wondering. Her only wish was that Doug didn’t mess things up between them.
Once at the hotel, Mike carried her backpack to their room. For some reason, Cassidy suddenly was nervous, though she had no idea why. These men were willing to travel to another state—or rather through several states—to find her. They were meant to be together.
