Chapter30

Choke me softly

Oriana

When I wake, the sun is shining through the curtains and the smell of food permeates the room. I stretch my arm to the other side of the bed, remembering that I fell asleep with Jake next to me. I reach for the shirt I removed last night, pull it over my head, then step into the main room to find him sitting at the table with a paper in his hands. He’s reading and has not even noticed I’m here.

“Eat,” he orders.

Okay. Well, maybe he did notice. I take the same seat I had last night. He puts the paper down and stares at me.

“You didn’t sleep with me?” I ask, grabbing a piece of bacon.

“No. I figured you wouldn’t take too kindly to waking up and being choked again.”

“I enjoyed it last night,” I purr, and his brow quirks ever so slightly before he turns serious.

“That’s because you knew I wouldn’t do it to hurt you while I was awake.”

“But asleep…”

“I have no control.”

We sit in silence until I eat the last of the bacon, then he asks, “Did you want to shop? It’s our last day, so you may as well do something you want to do.”

“I would love that,” I reply as I stand. “I’ll get dressed.”

“Oriana.”

“Yes?” I turn back to face him.

“I plan to fuck you again before we leave.”

“Promises, promises,” I whisper, just loud enough for him to hear. His chuckle follows me as I go and get changed. Once I slip on a flowy dress with a pair of flat ballerina shoes, I head back to join him.

“You get ready faster than any woman I know,” he compliments.

“You make me come faster than any other man has,” I say cheekily.

He sucks air through his teeth while he smirks. “And more than once,” he adds.

I grin as I reach him, and he puts his hand on the small of my back as we leave.

We’re pretty close to everything, so we decide to walk. He takes me to an area littered with designer shops. Walking into one, he sits on the couch, waiting patiently as I look at the clothing. I’m used to wearing designer dresses—it was expected of me when I was in public with Kyler—but other than that, my closet is full of average brands that make me feel comfortable.

I don’t have money to splurge on expensive clothes anymore because I’m saving all my pay to one day buy a place with only my name on it, we had a prenup. The house I shared with Kyler was in his name, not mine. It’s part of the reason I was the one who had to walk out. Plus, that house was too big for just the two of us. I’m not sure I could have lived there by myself.

“Oriana.” I look over to Jake as the saleslady gives him a glass of wine. “Try that on.” He nods to an all-black bodysuit.

“Nice choice, sir,” the lady says in English. She pulls it off the rack, takes it to the changing room, and smiles at me.

“I would never wear that,” I tell him.

“You would…for me.”

“Would I, now?” I smile.

“You try it on. I’ll buy whatever it is your heart desires.”
