I didn’t care when it was just masturbation pictures. It barely fazed me. Sure, it was creepy, but there was nothing I could do. Plus…at least I was under the covers.

But this time it’s different.

If he witnessed what I was doing with Nic last night…that feels far more intrusive and dirty. Like it meant something more and I don’t want it tainted.

Good luck ever getting me to admit it though.

“Hey, babe. It doesn’t mean that he saw, okay? Maybe he was busy. We haven’t exactly heard from him in a couple weeks, maybe he’s laying low?” I know Kai’s trying to help, but he isn’t telling the truth. He’s not laying low, he’s biding his time, waiting for the perfect moment to strike out and cause the most devastation. He’s still out there.

I know it.

Like an omen has been summoned, Nic’s phone starts ringing and the three of us freeze in place. My heart drops to my stomach as he answers with a clipped tone.

“Talk to me.” I wait, holding my breath, the very muted sound of someone talking on the other end of the line has nausea swirling in my stomach. “Yeah. Mhm. Okay, got it. We’ll be there in twenty. Wait. Do you have the trash pandas with you? K. Bye.”

“Well?” I bounce on my bed, impatience warring within me.

“There’s another body.” Nic’s voice isn’t as angry as I expected, more resigned, even slightly…approving. His aura wavers with grim acceptance and hesitance about taking me with him.

“Well let’s go then!” I jump from the bed, feeling the after effects of last night’s activities dried between my legs and I cringe.

What a great way to get an infection, dumbass!

At least I’m on the implant and I don’t have to worry about pregnancy, but I do have to worry about cleanliness. I’m such a fucking idiot. I groan out loud, smacking my palm against my forehead hard enough to remind me that my head is still, like, super fragile right now and I shouldn’t have done that.

“Hey. Just out of curiosity, you guys are clean right?” I speak up, interrupting whatever whispered conversation they were carrying on when I wasn’t paying attention.

“It’s a little late to be thinking about that, isn’t it?” Nic’s snipe doesn’t even make contact, I just keep my face blank and wait for an answer. “Yes, I’m clean. Would you like me to get the paperwork pulled up for you?”

I wave him away. “Nah, I’m good. Kai?”

“I’m not as big of a man-whore as you seem to think I am, Wick.” He’s wounded, but I brush this one off. This is about my health. Yeah, it might be too late now–stupid fucking libido–but it’s still important. “Yes, I’m clean. Jesus! And before you go asking Ezra, you should know that he hasn’t been with anyone since his fiancée six years ago. He’s clean as a whistle.”

“Cool, cool, cool,” I mutter, wrapping the blanket around myself tighter before heading to the bathroom. “I’m clean too, in case you were wondering,” I add casually as I walk past, still holding my throw blanket to my chest, and Kai barks out a laugh.

“I don’t know about that, Wicked. You were a very dirty girl last night,” he drawls, his voice edged with lust, making my sore vagina throb.Looks like she is ready for another round, even if it’ll kill her.

Nic did say we’d be there in twenty though…

I think I can get a shower and a Kai all in one go. Right?

“Kai…wanna help me wash my back?” I call out behind me, dropping the blanket to the floor as I stride to the bathroom, and he hollers in excitement. Nic groans and curses as Kai’s excited footsteps bound down the hall after me.

Multitasking for the win.

The truck is quiet during the ride to the crime scene, so I fidget with my cane in the passenger seat next to Ezra the whole time. I wouldn’t be getting called in unless it’s about getting a vision from another one of my stalker’s victims because I’ve been benched, yet the guys still refuse to tell me a damn thing. Apparently, I’ll see it when I see it.

Oh, the irony.

When we come to a final stop, I immediately swing the door open and hop out of the massive truck, searching for any familiar auras that I can follow. Before I even have a chance to tune in properly, chaotic squeaks and chirps reach my ears and two giant balls of fluff ram into my legs and climb up onto my shoulders. Gizmo and Snitch’s little claws roam over my face as they stick their tiny wet noses against my skin, their whiskers tickling me and making me giggle.

“Babies!” I squeak out, immediately wrapping my arms around them and rubbing at their coarse fur. “I missed you so much! Oh my God, I’m so sorry. Yes, I am. Mommy missed you. I promise I’ll never leave you again.”

I know I’m rambling, but I mean every word. Their excited loving little groans and purrs reverberate straight to my heart, drawing prickles of tears to my eyes and causing my throat to close off tightly. They’re my babies, through and through, and I know they missed me as much as I missed them.

No one can tell me otherwise.

They, apparently, refused to come back with Nic last night because they really don’t like him all that much yet, and probably didn’t know where he was taking them. They’re smart little creatures, and even if I can shake off his bullshit on the outside, they pick up on the turmoil he causes me on the inside.
