But a caged bird can never truly be free. She’ll always be lured back to the security of the only life she’s ever known.

Like I now have to return to my cage.

It may be a gilded cage, but it’s a cage all the same.

“I could say you’re helping me plan some charity gala,” I suggest as he smooths a hand along my hair.

“Is that typically something you require help with?” He arches a brow.

“Not really.” I roll my eyes. “I’m just expected to show up at a certain date and time.”

He nods thoughtfully, staring into the distance. Then his eyes widen and he darts his gaze back to mine. “What if we planned a baby shower?”

“A…baby shower?”

Excitement builds on his face as he rolls onto his side, facing me. “Rory grew up in foster care so she doesn’t have any family.”

“I’m aware.”

“Right. So, we throw Adam and her a shower. Or some sort of party to congratulate them on their baby. And since I don’t have the first idea how to plan anything like this and you presumably do…”

“You do realize we’ll actually have to plan one. We can’t use it as a cover and nothing come from it.”

“I’m fine with that. I’ve debated organizing something but have put it off because this kind of thing is so far out of my wheelhouse it’s laughable.”

I stare at the horizon as I ruminate over the idea, analyzing it for any potential pitfalls. Of all the possible solutions, this one seems the least risky. And also the most believable if questioned.

“I bet if I tell my private secretary what we’re doing and that it’s a surprise, he’ll make sure to keep it from Adam, too. Everyone will.”

Lips curling into a devilish smirk, Creed hovers over me. “I like the way your mind works, princess.”

A shiver rolls through me from the carnal look in his eyes as he cages me in with his arms, making it impossible to escape him.

But I have no desire to escape Creed. Not now.

Maybe not ever.

He crashes his lips against mine as he crawls between my legs, raw need hitting me deep in my core, despite the fact it hasn’t even been twenty minutes since my last orgasm. Around Creed, though, my libido is on overdrive, always desperate for that sensation of euphoria only he can give me.

“Almost as much as your body.”

He brings his erection up to me, teasing me before sinking into me. My lips part on a moan as I succumb to everything he is.

To everything he makes me feel.

To everything he makes me believe.

All I can do is pray we’re not being completely reckless. Not just with our bodies.

But with our hearts.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Creed

Nervous tension tightens my stomach as I navigate my car up to the security gate at Gladwell Palace, a path I’ve driven more times than I can count.

That was before I slept with the Princess Royal.
