Gianna hadn’t fully come down when he lost what little control he had left. He took the vibrator and turned it off. Then he gripped the dildo, pulling it out, even as her body resisted the departure, her orgasm lingering, clinging tightly to the toy.

“God,” she gasped, when the flared head cleared. “Elio.” She reached out for him, almost blindly. “Please.”

She didn’t need to beg.

Fuck. He was the beggar in this bed. The one ready to lay himself at her feet if only to steal scraps of her time, her attention, her.

He drew on a condom, shoving into the hilt, belatedly aware that she had taken the dildo in slower, giving herself time to adjust.

Elio forced himself to hold there, fighting the need to take her like a rutting beast.

Gianna’s nails scored his back and she—honest-to-God—bared her teeth. “Don’t stop. Prove that I’m yours. Make me feel it!”

If she intended to say more, to up the ante on her demands, he didn’t give her the chance. Her words not only dared him, they freed him, body and soul.

Elio thrust hard and fast, his climax striking a split second before Gianna came again.

The two held steady, the only sound in the cabin their gasping breaths and the crackling fire. He remained above her, his weight held up on his elbows by her shoulders. Her gaze locked with his, and while neither of them said anything, Elio felt as if they spoke volumes.

They might be separating tomorrow, but there was no way he would be leaving her behind. He was going to carry her with him, back to Baltimore, back out on that ice, on the road, everywhere. She was there now, burrowed deep. In his thoughts and, God help him, his heart.

Because while he had zero experience with the emotion, he knew without a doubt, this was it.

He was in love.

Chapter Thirteen

Gianna stood next to her car, watching as Elio locked the door to the cabin.

She fought hard to give him a cheerful smile, not wanting him to know how hard this goodbye was going to be for her.

They’d spent the morning packing their things and tidying up. Gianna had lived in the same apartment her entire life, but she didn’t think she’d miss the place when she moved out as much as she would this cabin.

She and Elio had remained in bed a little later than either of them had planned because they’d both agreed it would be silly to leave just one condom in the box. So she’d grabbed it, put it on him, then climbed on top, riding him as he stroked her clit. Gianna had thought herself in the power position, but Elio had proven that wrong the second he gripped her hips, driving her pace, her depth, her angle. They’d come much quicker than she’d wanted, the interlude ending far too soon for her, considering it was the last.

“All good?” she asked when he approached her.

He nodded.

She held up her hand, revealing the key dangling there on a chain. “I’ll return Liza’s key to her when I get back to the city.”

Liza had texted her nearly every single day of her stay, yet she hadn’t told her friend about Elio’s presence. He hadn’t asked her not to, nor had he seemed upset that she hadn’t. When Aldo called on Wednesday, Elio had pretended to be back home, in Baltimore. No mention of the cabin…or her.

For Gianna, it felt as if they were holding tightly to this escape from the real world, keeping it their own special secret, something that was just for them, that they didn’t want to share with anyone else.

“I’ll follow you off the mountain,” Elio said. “Make sure you get to the highway alright.”

“Okay. I’ll grab a pregnancy test on my way back to Philly,” she promised. “And I’ll call you either way.”

“Thanks,” he said, glancing back toward the cabin almost wistfully. “I hate to leave.”

“Me too. This week was…” There wasn’t a word big enough, so she didn’t try. Didn’t have to.

“Yeah,” he agreed, grasping her waist. His head lowered as he stole one last glorious, amazing kiss. Their tongues took their last tastes, and she drew in a deep breath through her nose, trying to memorize the smell of him, woodsmoke and his Old Spice bodywash.

When they parted, she gave him a smile.

“I guess I’ll see you around. Sometime.”
