His jaw tightens. “This is your home now.”

No. It’s not.

“You can’t do this. I’m supposed to be going to meet Rafael—”

West’s eyes flash. A glimmer of gold rolls over his gaze before the familiar dark grey color returns.

He hates Rafael. He hates a male he doesn’t even know all because the Luna whispered the Gravetail Alpha’s name in my ear.

That’s why he’s doing this. Why he followed Chase’s lead, why he brought me to a place I can’t leave… he’s no longer trying to convince me to reject the mate bond I have with Rafael.

He’s acting as if I already have.

West proves it, too, when he continues toward the entrance he’d been leading me to. He waits for me to follow, and when I don’t, he moves until he’s standing behind me. West doesn’t quite touch me again, but because I don’t want him to, it’s so easy for him to herd me the way he wants me to go.

And that’s right into the kitchen.

“What is this?”

“You must be hungry.”

Of course I am. Or, Iwas…until I realized what West has done.

But this? He’s gone too far.

In the center of the kitchen, there’s a small round table with a pair of wooden chairs on opposite sides. The table is full. Save for two empty white plates, every inch of the space is covered with food.

Food that West prepared. Food he expects me to eat.

He’s providing for me like Iamhis bride… and I’d ratherstarvethan let him think he can get away with what he’s done.

His expression is one part expectant, one part hopeful.

I want to slap it off his face.

“How dare you.”

“Lane—”

No.No. He’s not going to call me ‘Lane’. Not now. That’s a nickname—a pet name—I’d allowed him to use when he was my lover. While my brother still uses my childhood nickname when he’s in a protective mood, everyone else uses my full given name. I am Helene. West’s Lane disappeared a long time ago, and if he thinks that he can call me by that namenow, he’s finally pushed me to my breaking point.

I’m an omega. We don’t break. We don’t snap.

We exist to keep our pack together, and to ensure that other shifters keep control.

Which is why it’s probably such a shock to West when I losemine.

I’ve been gently refusing him for years. He didn’t respond togentle.Maybe he’ll respond tothis.

I can’t reach my wolf, but I’m strong enough without her help to grab the table by the edge and flip it over before West can stop me.

As the plates splatter on the floor, the tinkle of broken glass telling us that I smashed at least one, all of the food wasted as it splatters across the floor, I tuck a lock of hair behind my ear.

“Don’t.” The word is as shaky as the wobble of the table. “Don’t ever try to feed me again. You might have me trapped in this cabin until you comes to your senses and bring me home, but I’m not your mate. I’m not yourbride. Right now, I’m not your anything.”

He recoils as if I’ve slapped him. Then again, considering I’ve never spoken to him like that before, it’s probably the closest I’ve ever come to purposely lashing out at him.

He deserves it. When he hangs his head, though his back stays straight and proud, I know that West understands that keeping me isn’t going to be as easy as he thought—but I know him.
