West’s disappointment to see me showered and dressed as soon as he wakes up is obvious.

“You got ready without me?”

I had to. In yesterday’s shower, West started kissing my neck, making it obvious that he was preparing to take me up against the wall. I panicked and moved away from him so quickly, I nearly slid on the slippery floor. He caught me of course, teasing me for being clumsy, but I effectively killed the mood.

Last night, I told him flatly I didn’t want to mate. That’s all I had to say. Content to just curl up next to me, he kissed me on the forehead and fell asleep.

I already made up my mind to talk to him this morning. Waiting until after another shared shower would just make it so much worse.

“Yeah.” I exhale softly. “We have to talk.”

West’s expression switches in a heartbeat. Slightly disappointment turns to a panic he can’t quite hide.

Oh, yeah. He knows what’s coming.

“Breakfast,” he announces, throwing the covers back. Just like the last two nights, he slept in his jeans so I wouldn’t be uncomfortable. He didn’t even ask if that’s what I wanted. He saw me stubbornly cling to my nightgowns and, as always, followed my lead. “We can talk after we eat.”

My stomach flip-flops. “I’m not hungry, West. And I don’t think this can wait.”

“You showered. Let me—”

He’s looking for any excuse to put off the inevitable.

I don’t blame him, but I have to stop this. “It’s important.”

“Okay. Of course. What’s on your mind?”

How to begin?

Feeling fidgety, my she-wolf spurring me to pace, I climb up from my chair.

Big mistake. Big.

Huge.

West’s gaze immediately dips, drawn to my bare legs for a moment before he slowly lifts his gaze—then stops. He sucks in a breath, and the panic rushing off of him becomesneedeven before he exhales.

What—

I follow his line of sight and, oh Luna, do I want to kick myself.

I’d been distracted when I grabbed my dress earlier this morning. Because of that, I don’t notice until right this second that it’s one of the shorter dresses in his collection. It barely skims the middle of my thigh, the skirt flaring at my hip, showing off my body.

I could deal with that. I’ve worn worse—and it’s not like any of the dresses my former lover picked out for me leave much to the imagination—but it’s not the length that catches West’s attention like that.

It’s the material of the dress itself.

It’s made of some kind of sleek, white silk that, with the light streaming in through the window, might as well be see-through. It’s not sheer, but it’s close enough.

His lips part, mouth falling open. West doesn’t blink. Lifting his hand, he wipes the corner of his mouth with the back of it.

The air goes heavy with lust.Hislust. I managed to put off his attentions ever since the other night, but there’s no denying that West already has me beneath him in his mind.

He takes a step toward me.

I throw up one hand, warding him off. The other wraps over my chest.

Another mistake. I pulled on panties after my shower, but decided not to bother with a bra. With my body type, they’re not necessary. My boobs are small enough that it’s not noticeable if I have one on or not—unless the dress I’ve got on is see-through and he can see the curve of my breasts and my nipples right through it.
