“If you’re asking if I’m aware that I just staked my ass-virginity on the possibility of you ovulating in the next little while, the answer is yes—I’m aware,” Torin told her.

Her eyes flashed.

“Hey—I’m taking a risk too, you know,” she pointed out. “If my body does release an egg for fertilization, I have to take that monster you call a shaft deep in my pussy and let you try to make me pregnant—even though you said that’s impossible!” She shook her head. “I still don’t know how I’ll manage it.”

“I told you—my precum would help you open for me,” Torin told her. “And I already promised I’d be gentle with you baby—so damn gentle,” he added, cupping her cheek.

Sky’lar arched her eyebrows at him.

“I promised as well. And since I’m right on the edge of my fertile time in my cycle, things could go either way. Both of us had better be prepared.”

“We might catch this bastard before it comes to that,” Torin pointed out.

“Let’s hope so,” Sky’lar nodded shortly. “I think we already established that sex is probably a bad idea between the two of us.”

“It’s a fucking terrible idea,” Torin agreed. He gave her an intense look. “But that doesn’t mean I don’t want you, baby.”

Sky’lar gave him an equally intense look in return.

“I want you too, Giant. Want to fuck you. But we’ll see who winds up being the penetrator…and who winds up being pierced.”

Torin felt his cock harden in his trousers.

“We’ll, see indeed,” he murmured. “Come on, Darlin’—let’s go into the Shrine.”

SKY

“Stop—by whose authority do you seek to enter the Shrine of the Great Serpent Mother?” The guard asking was male but he was certainly larger than the average male Serpentine, Sky thought. In fact, he was nearly as big and muscular as Torin who was standing at her back.

“We come by invitation of the High Priestess herself,” she said smoothly. “You must be Lunk’or—she told us you would greet us at the door and give us our pilgrims’ garments.”

Lunk’or was also of the Hooded Clan and he spread his hood wide, glaring down at her for a long moment with yellow, slitted eyes. He wore silver armor that flashed in the dazzling sunlight and made him look even bigger than he was.

“She did say someone would be coming—two Peace Keepers,” he hissed at last. “But she didn’t say nothing about them being Mammalian.”

“We’re here to catch a killer,” Torin rumbled, taking a step forward to stand protectively close to Sky. “And hopefully to keep your Mistress, the High Priestess, from being his next victim.”

“We of the Shrine guards protect the High Priestess and her acolytes,” the big Serpentine snarled. “We don’t need no outside help from the likes of you two!”

“As a matter of fact, we could use your help,” Sky said diplomatically, stepping between the two big males, who seemed about to fight. “Pass the word to your guards to be on the lookout for a Mammalian male—tall and thin, with a white face and black eyes and lips. He may or may not have some kind of blades or knives on his fingers,” she added. “But in the meantime, the High Priestess herself authorized us to enter the Shrine.”

The surly guard didn’t appear too happy with the fact that he had to let them in—in fact, Sky got the distinct impression that he would much rather have thrown them out into the Deep Desert. But there was nothing he could do but nod them through the vast archway of sandstone into the Shrine.

“Go ahead—to your left you’ll find a dressing area with lockers and a shelf full of purification garments,” he growled. “Put them on in the changing area. No one is allowed in the Inner Shrine until they’re dressed right.”

“Thank you.” Sky nodded her head. “And please let us know if you see anyone of the description I gave you. It’s imperative that we catch him before he kills again.”

“I’ll be on the look-out,” Lunk’or said grudgingly. “In the meantime, you two stay out of trouble. We don’t need no interference in the way we guard the Shrine.”

Sky decided to let that pass. She simply nodded again and stepped past him, through the enormous arch above her and into the Shrine.

Torin followed her, though she noticed he and Lunk’or were exchanging some hard looks as he did. Was this a dominant male thing, she wondered? If so, it was very irritating. Why couldn’t they work together smoothly instead of posturing and glaring?

But she forgot her irritation as she found herself in the cool dimness of the Shine. It took her eyes a moment to adjust from the brilliant sunlight outside but once they did, she caught her breath at the immense structure around her.

It was…amazing.

SCION

The Scion of the Cruel Father watched the two Peace Keepers who had been sent to find him. One was male—a Kindred warrior—he didn’t concern the Scion much. But the female…well, the Scion found her most interesting…one might even say tantalizing.
