So I will stop it now.

This bonfire near The Edge will be the last night spent at this godforsaken university for me.

I love you, sis.

And whatever you do, don’t ever get involved with those boys of the Skull & Serpent Society.

xoxo

Eve

Dylan reaches for my phone, and I let him take it so he can have a closer look.

“Oh … wow.”

Exactly.

“Let me see,” Alistair says, and he snatches the phone out of Dylan’s hands. “Oh boy. Felix …” he mutters.

I turn to look at him, but all he does is stare nonchalantly, shaking his bloody hand like it means nothing to him.

“You believed a lie,” I tell him to his face. “A lie you told yourself was true.”

FELIX

Fuck.

I’ve never regretted a single thing in my life.

Until today.

“She told me you and her made that pact,” I say, trying to make sense of it.

Dylan snatches the phone back from Alistair and holds it up to my face. “Does this look like she’s fucking guilty?”

His voice fluctuates in tone so much it almost sounds like he’s just as mad as she is.

“Look at it,” Dylan barks. “And tell me you think she still did it.”

Felix grinds his teeth as he stares at the text.

“Eve literally told her she loves Pen,” Dylan adds.

“This text … this is why you guys did all that shit to me?” Penelope mutters.

Alistair suddenly grabs her hand and leans in to whisper something. I can’t hear it, but I see his lips move, and all they say is, “I’m sorry.”

She nods as he squeezes her hand. “Thank you.”

Dylan grabs my hand and shoves the phone inside. “Look. At. It.”

And I can’t fucking look away from the text that was clearly sent from Eve’s phone to Pen’s. The emotions inside it reminding me of the girl she was right before she made the jump.

Solemn. Angry. Distraught.

All for reasons I never understood.

And I misconstrued those words as blame.

Blame on her sister for ruining her life to the point of wanting to end it all.

And when she came to this school, I made it my life’s mission to make her suffer just as much as Eve did for all the wrong reasons.

Because Pen was right.

It wasn’t her.

My lips part.

“You could’ve asked me, you know,” she says, her nostrils flaring. “Instead of stealing that diary, the last thing that I got from her after she decided to end her life.”

Her strained voice physically hurts to listen to.

More than any of these shards embedded in my skin ever could.

“I knew it was a bad idea to ask for your help.” She grimaced.

“No,” I say under my breath, putting the phone on the bar.

“You knew I needed someone fucked up and with no restraints to find the one responsible,” she says. “But if you three are determined to fight over me out of jealousy, then we might as well cancel our agreement right here, right now.”

“No,” I say again.

“You’re mad at them for doing exactly what you all said you would,” she replies. “And you’re mad at me because I proved to you I’m not lying and that you were wrong.”

“Penelope …” I grumble. “Don’t make me say no again.”

“Then are you going to do what you’re supposed to?” she asks. “Or are you going to remain unreliable?”

Okay. I’m about ready to fuck this whole thing up, including her.

I approach her, and Dylan attempts to step in, but Penelope holds up her hand to keep him at bay. With just a single hand, she’s managed to control both him and Alistair.

And I realize I haven’t given her the credit she’s due.

“Look at me.”

She tentatively raises her catlike-lined eyes.

I tip up her chin. “I was the first to fuck that pussy raw.”

Her lips part, and she sucks in a hampered breath.

My gaze lowers. “And I’d kill every last son of a bitch on this campus if they ever fucking laid a finger on you.”

A whimper escapes her mouth, and she immediately shuts her lips after.

But I heard it. I definitely fucking heard.

She’s much more like us than she lets on.

A twisted little girl with dark, fucked-up needs just like ours.

My thumb presses onto her purple lips, pulling them down as I slowly lower it, rubbing her lipstick all over her chin.

“You’re mine, Penelope.”

Dylan steps behind her and places his hands on her waist. “Ours.”

My nostrils flare, and it only makes him grin.

“An agreement is an agreement, after all.” Dylan leans in to press a kiss on her neck. “Where’s the fun if we can’t share?”

He sinks his teeth into her skin, and fuck me, the moan that follows makes me want to gut him like a fish.

I’ve never felt this possessive over something or someone, yet this little spicy fucking slut managed to pull it right out of me.

Fuck.

“Do you want her?” Dylan asks as he snakes his hands underneath her hoodie and grabs her tits while she looks at me with desperation.
