Unknown: It’s Nathan from last night. Can I see you again?

My heart stopped as I read his name, Nathan. What the? My fingers dashed a response back.

Julia: How’d you get my number?

My heart raced as the little typing dots appeared instantly after sending my text to Nathan.

Nathan: Eve

Of course it’d be Eve who gave him my number. She’s messing with me too much. I stopped texting Nathan and pulled up a new message.

Julia: Eve, why did you give Nathan my number?

Eve: Free spirit remember?

Julia: This isn’t a game anymore. Robbie’s little surprise almost caught our free spirit experiment last night. Remember? I can’t even txt about it, ill have to tell you about it later.

Eve: You sneak! Tell me everything. Come over and ditch Robbie.

Julia: I don’t know if I can, I mean he did fly all the way down here…

Eve: Just get over here. I’ll hop in the shower now. We can go shopping before Willie and I go out tonight.

I bit the inside of my cheek in thought as I responded back.

Julia: Willie huh? Is that the guy from last night?

Eve: yesss. Come over

Julia: I’ll wrap up here then. Give me thirty

I flushed, washed my hands, and made my way out. Before sitting down, I spoke up, “Eve and I made plans to have a girls’ shopping trip.” I paused to look over at Dad who rolled his eyes. He knew what was coming, and I couldn’t help but have a devilish smirk.

“But I’m here, so Eve can come second to me.” Robbie stated flatly with a confused tone.

“Well, that was honest, but… no, I’m going out with Eve. Dad, will you drive me over?”

“Sure thing.”

“What am I supposed to do until then?” Robbie buttered his toast with a worried look on his face.

“Uhhh, watch baseball with my dad?” My hands were on my hips, and I was ready to snap my fingers at the attitude he gave me.

“It’s not even baseball season.”

“Watch soccer then?” I said, taking in a deep breath. He was a grown ass man who couldn’t think of what to plan? He truly knew how to boil my blood.

“Do you even know anything?” I clenched my fists at his defensive childlike behavior. I swear, if I needed to, I’d resort to throwing straws at him because I’d had about enough, but for the sake of my father I kept my cool.

“Ok,” my dad intervened. “Robbie, if Julia has plans with Eve, then that’s it. Make her happy, ok? We’ll figure something out.”

“Thanks, Dad.” I kissed his stubbly cheek.

Robbie nodded in approval, but I could tell the quiet revolt that lay beneath. This displeased him, surely, yet I didn’t really care. He put his Gucci sunnies on, slipped out his phone, and ignored us as he bit into his overly buttered toast. Lovely.

“Just get ready for a double date with Eve tonight, Robbie, ok?”

He sprang forward, he lifted his glasses even. “Double date with Eve?”
