“Patience,” Lucas singsonged at her, and we both snickered.

Once we were at the top, I let her down and moved her to the middle. I wiped my hands on my pants before I helped her take off the blindfold. She gasped as she looked around, her eyes going to the picnic in the middle, and the surrounding flowers, then to the unmistakable view that used to be the old water tower.

“You know, Ori, I was wondering if you wanted to celebrate. It’s a beautiful day—”

“Clark,” she gasped as I started to recite one of the last things she had said to me before I broke her heart.

Instead of finishing that question, I got down on one knee. Just like we had practiced, Lucas gave me the small box.

“No!” Oriana shrieked as she covered her mouth with her hand.

“No?” I asked, slightly questioning everything.

“I mean yes…ohmigod…yes, I’ll marry you,” she kept on rambling on.

My shoulders started to shake with uncontrollable laughter. Lucas was confused, since this wasn’t part of what we had practiced.

“I fucking love you. You know that, right?” I mused as I took her hand and slipped the ring on.

“Mommy, Daddy said a bad word,” Lucas whispered, and this time both Ori and I gasped.

Oriana got down on her knees to be on eye level with Lucas. “What?”

“Daddy said when you have this ring, we get to be a family. You’ll be my mommy.”

My chest squeezed. I’d had several talks with him before today, but I wasn’t sure just how much they had sunk in. I could feel tears in my eyes. This was one hell of a fucking day.

I grabbed Lucas and Ori and pulled them into my arms, and I vowed that I would always be there for them. I kissed the top of Lucas’s head, then kissed Ori like it was the first time all over again.

“You did this for me?” she whispered.

“It’s only fair I get to fix the fantasy I broke.”

She blushed, and a few happy tears fell from her eyes.

“This is better than what I had in mind,” she breathed.

“Prescott is picking up Lucas in a bit so we can properly break in the new lookout point.”

She gave me a flirty grin.

“Dating an officer certainly has its perks.” She gave Lucas a bunch of kisses on his face before she pulled me in for another kiss. “I love my boys.”

I would never get tired of hearing that shit.

A few monthslater

There was a knock on the door, and I groaned into a bunch of hair. My arms instantly wrapped tighter against Oriana, my hand slipping past her blouse and onto her stomach.

“Babe, door,” she mumbled in her drowsy voice that did shit to my cock.

My hips involuntarily moved on their own, trying to seek her warmth.

Having a little kid was like having your own personal cockblock alarm. I loved Lucas—swear to God, I did—but the boy had the worst timing in the whole world.

The knocking was more persistent. I woke up enough to instantly go on alert. It was dark outside. I pulled my phone out and I saw it was three in the morning. Worry spread through me, but I figured it wasn’t anything too alarming, since I had no calls from my family.
