It was my turn to frown as I noted the other couples snuggled into the seats, which really resembled small fancy couches.

“I—” The words died in my throat. This was intimate and romantic and totally not what I expected.

Noah moved behind me, dropping his mouth to my ear. “Move your cute ass, shortcake, or we’re going to miss the movie.”

His voice rolled through me, making a shiver run down my spine. He hadn’t said anything suggestive or sexual, and yet, my body stirred to life.

“We’re over there in the back,” he said, pointing to the other side of the room.

It was only a small screening, with about ten love seats littered throughout, all positioned to give people privacy. I spotted a couple in the front making out, and Noah chuckled.

“Kissing is allowed at the movies, you know, shortcake. Maybe if you’re lucky, you’ll get to find out.”

Jesus.

Sometimes, when he was like that—playful with a hint of teasing—it sent my heart into a stuttering mess.

Because he was Noah freaking Holden, and I was just a girl from Syracuse. A girl with more hang-ups than she cared to admit and self-esteem issues to boot.

And I still couldn’t believe I was here on a date with him.

Albeit a secret date that no one could ever know about.

That killed my good mood a little.

We found our seats, and Noah offloaded his copious number of snacks onto the table. I sat down, hyper-aware of how close we were going to be.

And sure enough, the second Noah sat beside me; our thighs brushed as he got comfortable. But then, he slid his arm along the back of the love seat, and his fingers started toying with the ends of my hair.

This was going to be torture.

He leaned in close, his warm, mint breath fanning my cheeks. “So what’s this movie about?”

“Noah!” My breath caught as he gazed down at me.

It was on the tip of my tongue to ask what we were doing. But he slipped his hand into my hair and angled my face to allow him to slide his mouth over mine. His tongue peeked out, tasting me, and I whimpered.

“Fuck, I love those little sounds you make.”

Somewhere in the back of my lust-addled mind, I heard the film’s opening credits. The birds chirping as the sun rose behind Kiera Knightly reading.

“Noah, the film,” I said, breaking the kiss and sliding two fingers over his lips.

“Yeah, I know.” And he looked regretful about the whole thing. “Maybe I didn’t think this through,” he whispered, kissing the tips of my fingers before tucking me into his side and getting us comfortable.

“Thank you.” I gazed up at him. “I love it.”

It’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me.

“I’m going to preface this by saying I am straight. One hundred percent hetero,” Noah whispered to me as we watched the film. “But even I can appreciate Darcy for what he is.”

“Oh yeah?” I chuckled softly.

“The guy is a total snack.”

“A snack?” My brow quirked up.

“Total. Snack. I can see why you love him.”
