Most of the anger I’d felt bubbling inside me last night had subsided. But I wasn’t surprised. Aurora had that effect on me.

I dumped my puke-stained t-shirt in the laundry hamper and grabbed a towel. A tepid shower would blast the majority of my hangover away, and the rest would be cured with eggs and bacon.

At least, I hoped like fuck it would, or the day was going to be a long, painful slog.

By the time I was showered and dressed, my stomach rumbled, and I felt semi-human.

Austin followed me down, rubbing his eyes. “Morning,” he said, helping himself to coffee.

“Late night?” I asked, and he smirked.

“You could say that.”

“Shit, man, were you with a tiger?”

“What—”

I pointed to the wall mirror and then to his neck. “She scratched you up good.”

“She was a feisty little thing.” He chuckled, gently prodding the red angry scratch marks along his collarbone. “Have you seen Rory?”

“No, why?” I rushed out a little too hastily. “Have you?”

“Uh, no. That’s why I asked you.” His brows knitted. “She must still be sleeping.”

“I’m making eggs and bacon, you want?”

“Does a bear shit in the woods? So how was last night?” I gawked at him, and he added, “With Sam. Are you feeling okay? You’re acting weird.”

“Just tired. It was a late night.”

“Oh, it’s like that, huh. I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist. She makes it too easy for you. Did you act out a little student/teacher role-play?”

“Like I’d ever tell you,” I laughed, hoping like hell he wouldn’t catch on to the tightness in my voice.

“Come on, man. It’s not like I haven’t heard it all before. You used to enjoy a little story trade over breakfast.”

“We were studying.”

“You’re really going to stick to that story? I know we give you shit about her, but none of us care if you’re fucking Sam. You don’t need to be all weird about it.”

“I’m not—”

“‘Morning,” Aurora padded into the kitchen with a yawn.

“Hey, Rory, answer something for me,” Austin said, and I wondered where the fuck he was going with this.

“Sure.” She helped herself to coffee, avoiding looking in my direction.

“Do you think a guy and a girl can ever be just friends?”

“Why do you ask?”

“Because lover boy over here reckons he studied with Sam last night, but I call bullshit.”

“I don’t know.” She worried her lip with her thumb. “Was this study session somewhere public, like the library or a coffee shop? Or was it at her place? Was there alcohol involved? Or—”

“How the fuck should I know?” Austin barked, frowning at his sister. “Ask Noah.”
