“Okay.”
“Okay?” I reared back. “Just like that? I feel like there’s a catch somewhere.”
“There isn’t.” Her smile grew. “Everyone deserves a second chance, Noah. This is yours. Just don’t screw it up.”
I wrapped my arms around her waist and ghosted my mouth over hers again. “I’m going to Darcy you so fucking hard that you won’t know which way is up.”
“That is not a thing.” Her soft laughter filled the air, calming the storm still raging inside me.
“It is now. Just you wait.” I nuzzled her neck, kissing the soft skin there.
“Noah?”
I lifted my eyes to hers, feeling winded all over again.
She was here.
And she was mine.
And even though I wasn’t sure I deserved another chance, I was going to do everything in my power not to fuck it up.
“Yeah, shortcake?”
She smiled again and then said the three little words I needed more than anything.
“Take me home.”
“This is nice,” I said, walking around Aurora’s living room.
“Yeah, it’s better than a lot of places near campus.”
“I’m sorry I wasn’t around to help you move.”
She shrugged, pouring us both a drink. “You didn’t want to celebrate with the team tonight?”
“Honest answer?”
“Always.”
“I couldn’t be there. Watching you laugh and enjoy yourself with Harper and the girls. You looked… you looked like you’d moved on.”
“Noah…” It was a choked whisper.
“I know, I know. I sound like a complete pussy.”
“That’s not what I was going to say.” She came around to me, resting her hands on my hips. “I didn’t tell you the whole truth about my ex—”
“Confession, I already know.”
“Y-you do?”
“Ella told me.”
“Oh. Well, when I found him in bed with my best friend, it broke something inside me, Noah. I was a mess. I didn’t eat. And when I did, I ate myself sick. It wasn’t a good time for me, and the worst part was I blamed myself. I told myself if only I’d been thinner, prettier, and more confident, he wouldn’t have fallen into bed with my best friend.
“But I was going to fight for you.”
“You were?”
