“Hey, Austin,” I gave him a small wave.

“You two… together.”

“Sorry, you had to find out like this, bro. But last night was kind of a shit show, and I really want to crawl back into bed with my girl. So unless we’re doing this—”

“Your girl? As in, my little sister?”

“Surprise,” I choked out.

“Oh, no. Hell, no. You’re letting this asshole use you—”

“Whoa, back the fuck up. I’m not using anyone. I fucking love her.”

“L-love her?” He exploded with laughter, the kind that scraped my insides raw.

I glared at Noah as we watched my brother barely hold together his amusement and utter disbelief.

“That’s a good one, Holden. You almost had me there. Did you put him up to this, Rory? To get back at me for being an asshole? Because good one, seriously, you guys got me good.”

“It’s true, Austin.” I stepped forward, slipping into Noah’s side. “It wasn’t supposed to happen. But it did.”

“Hold up.” Austin rubbed his temples. “You’re saying… this isn’t a joke?”

“Nope. I love her, and she loves me.”

“Would you stop saying that? It’s weird.”

“Fine.” Noah shrugged, smothering a grin. “But it doesn’t change the fact it’s true.”

“Aurora wouldn’t fall for your bullshit. She knows better than that.” He looked at me, really looked at me, and I gave him a small smile.

“I don’t know what to say, Aus. It’s true. We’re…”

“Together. We’re together.” Noah stood taller. “And I know you’re probably going to want to break my face, but can you do it later because I’m barely awake, and I need—”

“Hold up. You’re serious? The two of you are…”

“Yes,” we both said in unison.

“Jesus. I need a drink. Here.” He thrust the brown paper bag at us. “I’m outta here.”

We watched Austin walk to the end of the hall and disappear around the corner.

“Do you think he’s okay?” I said.

“I mean, he didn’t try and murder me with his bare hands, so that’s something, right?” Noah closed the door and locked it. “Just in case he comes back.”

“Not funny.”

“Let’s go back to bed.” He gave me a crooked grin, the one that made my stomach dance. “I wasn’t done with you yet.”

“Noah, we can’t have sex after… that.”

Whatever that was.

I glanced at the door again, half-expecting Austin to burst in at any moment.

“Who said anything about sex, shortcake? I want to snuggle.”
