Opening the bag, I stuck my hand inside and pulled out the packet. “What is—”

“I’ve heard blondes have more fun,” he chuckled, the smooth sound rolling through me like a warm breeze.

Bad. This was really, really bad.

Connor squeezed my shoulder. “May the odds be ever in our favor, Goldilocks.”

“I’m not sure—”

“Like I already told you,” Noah added, holding my gaze, drawing me in, and making me wish for things that would never come true.

“You’re coming, shortcake,” he said with a secretive smile. “We won’t take no for an answer.”

CHAPTER 10

NOAH

“You’re not dressed,” I said when Aurora entered the kitchen later that night.

“Because I’m not going.” She barely made eye contact as she moved around me to get to the refrigerator. But I stepped back, cutting her off.

“Whoa, whoa, what do you mean, you’re not coming? We need you.”

“No, you don’t,” she said.

“Yes. We do. If you don’t come, we’re just the three bears and that’s fucking lame.”

“I’m sure you’ll survive. Or you could ask Fallon or Sam to stand in for you. They wouldn’t even need to wear the wig.”

Tension bracketed my mouth because, what the fuck?

“Where did that come from?”

“Nowhere.” She shrugged, managing to give me the slip this time. “It was just a suggestion.”

“Austin and Connor are going to be pissed if you don’t come, shortcake. Con has been talking about our costumes all week.”

“I told you all I wasn’t coming.”

“And I distinctly remember telling you we weren’t taking no for an answer.” I stepped up to her and her breath caught, the sexiest little sound coming from her throat.

Shit.

I needed to abort.

I needed to back the fuck up and put some safe distance between us.

But Aurora got under my skin like no other girl ever had.

It was disconcerting, to say the least. But also kind of hot.

Scrap that. It was fucking hot, and all week I’d found myself craving these moments. Her smiles and snark. The way she let out a small, exasperated sigh whenever I pushed her buttons.

“Noah,” she breathed.

“What, shortcake?” Electricity zapped between us.

“You shouldn’t be—”
