“Austin?” I called, earmarking my page and placing the book down on the window seat. “Is that you?”

They’d been pissed when they finally realized I’d left. But I figured the fact it took them forty minutes to realize I was missing and check their messages made us even.

Gripping the door handle, I pulled it open. “Austin, what—you’re not Austin.”

“Surprise.”

“What do you want, Noah?” An exasperated sigh slipped out.

“I came to check that you were okay. Feeling better? Because I gotta say, shortcake, I expected to find you wrapped up in bed with a hot water bottle.”

“A hot… Sorry, what?”

“You know, the thing you fill with boiling water to—”

“Noah.”

“Yes, shortcake?” He smirked.

“I know what a hot water bottle is. But why did you think I’d have one?”

“Because I figured you got your period or something.”

“I didn’t, but thanks for the concern.”

“Why’d you leave then?”

“Because…” I shrugged, dropping my gaze.

“Oh no, you don’t, shortcake. I’m going to need a little more than that. Did something happen?”

“Nothing happened. I just wasn’t feeling it. I did try to tell you all repeatedly that parties aren’t really my thing.”

“Funny because Mase told me he saw you bail after you gave Abel Adams and his friend a piece of your mind. What did they say?”

“Nothing, it doesn’t matter. Good night, Noah.” I went to push the door closed, but he kicked his foot out, giving himself enough leverage to push it back open.

“What did they say, shortcake?”

“Why?” I threw up my hands. “Why does it possibly matter to you?”

“Because I’ll kick their asses if they upset you.”

I rolled my eyes, frowning when Noah slipped into my room and closed the door behind him. Suddenly, the air felt too thick. Too heavy and suffocating, crushing my chest until it I couldn’t breathe.

“Nice sleep shirt,” he said, letting his gaze rake down my body. Slow, slow, slowly, until he dragged it back up, lingering on my boobs.

“Eyes up here, Holden.” I clicked my fingers, part outraged, part amused.

“Shit, sorry. I… you have an amazing rack.”

“Seriously, does that line ever work?”

“You tell me.” Noah shrugged, taking a step forward.

“What are you doing?”

“I don’t know.” He kept coming, his eyes dark with lust.
