Fuck.

“My stick is always available,” Austin said through a shit-eating smirk.

“That was gross and unnecessary.” Aurora grimaced. “You ready to go?”

“Go? You can’t go, little Hart, it’s Hot Dog—”

“Sorry, Con. But Harper has to get back for her shift at Millers.”

“Millers’ Bar and Grill?” Connor asked, and she nodded.

“That’s the one. I pick up some late shifts. I’m a night owl, and the extra money helps.”

“Nice, but it doesn’t mean you can’t stay, Rory, baby.” He pouted, laying it on thick.

“Another time. Come on,” she said to Harper, who followed her up.

“Thanks for the hot dog.” Harper smiled at him before turning her gaze in my direction. “Noah.”

Fuck.

She had the look, only confirming what Mase had said a minute earlier. But she didn’t seem to care one bit as she openly checked me out, eyes glittering with approval.

“Hopefully, I’ll see you around.”

“Uh, sure,” I murmured, not wanting to offend Aurora’s new friend.

The girls disappeared into the house, and Austin whistled under his breath, ”Jesus, she’s hot.”

“She’s fucking annoying,” Mase said.

“You’re just pissed she only had eyes for Holden,” Connor said.

“Fuck that. She’s not my type. I like girls who are less… whatever the fuck that was.”

“You mean you like girls who can’t think for themselves.” Amusement laced Leon’s words.

“What’s up with Rory?” Connor asked Austin. “She seemed… off.”

“I guess she isn’t used to this.” He shrugged, finding the label of his Heineken bottle hella interesting.

“Used to what?”

“I dunno, she’s always been a bit socially awkward. It’s like her thing or something.”

“She’s not usually so quiet around us,” Connor added. “She seemed kind of… sad.”

“I don’t know what to tell you, she had some shit going on when she was younger, but that was a long time ago. I’m sure it’s nothing.”

“Didn’t seem like nothing,” I said, instantly regretting it.

“Jesus, what are you two?” he grumbled. “Her therapists? Aurora has always been withdrawn. It’s just how she is. I need to take a piss.” He got up and stormed toward the house.

“Was it something I said?” I let out a strangled laugh.

“Anyone gets the impression we’re missing something?” Connor said.

Yes, yes, I did.
