Laugher in her throat, but she swallowed it down. “Seriously?”

A shrug, his arms sliding up and down her body with the movement. “I mean, I think we’ve established pissing you off is my superpower.”

“I think we established that the issue is with me and my messed-up head and—”

His hand on her cheek, tilting her head back, glaring down at her. “I think we established I’m tired of you talking shit about yourself.”

She froze.

Because…they had?

A glance up at his stern face, at his intense hazel eyes gave her the answer to that internal question.

They had.

Or, at least,Connorhad.

His hand slid along her jaw, moved to cup the back of her neck, his palm on her nape, fingers in her hair, the tips slightly tensed, as though waiting for her to argue.

But…she didn’t want to argue.

She exhaled. “So, what? I just have to accept that you like me now?”

She’d meant it as a joke, but her tone was off…and all thatoffrevealed too much. And, as always, the man himself saw too much.

Stupid intuition.

Stupid logic.

Stupid…

His other hand shifted, sliding from her hip, across her side, along her arm, up over her shoulder, coasting to her neck. Then up again, this time cupping her jaw, tilting her head back enough so that his eyes held hers. “Yes,” he said simply.

She felt that in her belly.

Her heart.

Between her thighs.

“Dammit,” she whispered, eyes stinging, pulse increasing, palms going just the slightest bit sweaty. “You’re being sweet.”

“Yes,” he said, clearly seeing right through her, knowing how much that touch, his closeness, that affirmation meant.

She exhaled.

Then, driven by the same intensity, the same feeling of having to act right then or live with forever regrets, she lifted on tiptoe…

And closed the distance between their mouths.

For a second, he didn’t move.

Neither did she, stymied by her decision, utterly frozen, completely shocked by that. She’d. Done. It. Not to hide. Not to create distance and make him made.

But because she’d wanted to feel his mouth on hers.

They were frozen. Suspended in midair.
