“And me. I need to know this has happened,” another male rasped as he too suddenly pushed forward with a burst of strength and speed.

Males growled in varying echoes of that demand, chilling Agor’s blood as the humans flung aside screamed and the crowd surged suddenly in panic. His wings lifted higher, and his gaze shot around as other humans moved through the crowd. These humans appeared almost larger than the others, he could only guess warriors, as they closed in and took the position of a well-trained unit. They lifted what appeared to be ion rifles to their shoulders, but these were designed for large cartridges that other humans loaded into them. Agor backed away, pushing Brydis with him. They need to get out into the open where they could take to the air. The avrhastals of his division had the same idea as they quickly moved in the same direction while the approaching Geminidae all stopped and peered over at the humans with an expression of shock just as the rifles fired.

The percussion that filled the air came with more screams, but then copious amounts of smoke burst up in plumes. Brydis flapped his wings in an attempt to keep the gas away from their mate and Agor backed closer to him and took up the effort as well as another volley was fired in their direction. In the distance, he could hear shouts of other Geminidae descending from the air, drawn by the commotion.

Iridi shrieked angrily as Brydis gave off a brassy bellow. Agor spun around in alarm just in time to see the female drop one of the uniformed humans as Brydis attempted to lift off within the confined space, his wings beating furiously as he shoved people aside in his pursuit.

Pursuit? Agor’s gaze swung around the shopping area in a panic. Where was Jill? He slapped a human away from him with his wings as he spun back toward Brydis, his gaze zeroing in on a human warrior carrying their mate away over his shoulder as he plowed effortlessly through the crowd. Other warriors closed around him, their weapons providing coverage as they sent out more smoke-producing cartridges. Agor choked as the smoke began to overwhelm him, his eyes tearing from the pain in his throat and the clenching of his heart in the sundering of the taliazon as Brydis toppled to the ground with one last flick of his wings. Agor raged and continued to press forward. He had to get to his mate. He had to help Brydis. Just a little further.

A warrior wearing a mask stepped in front of him and raised what looked like a modified blaster. With a bellow, he rushed the male just as an electric shock punctured through him. His back arched with the agony of it, his wings beating around him uselessly until he too fell to the ground.

Jill. My talia. Be safe and wait for me. I’ll find you.

Darkness closed around him and the last threads of the taliazon faded completely as he succumbed to unconsciousness.

Chapter35

Jill struggled in the grip of the idiot who held her as he raced from the port’s main drag. Her so-called rescuer. She could kill him! More than anything, she was angry at herself. She couldn’t believe how easily she’d been captured, but none of them had seen the unit circling behind them until it was too late. By then, Brydis had set her behind him in an attempt to fan away the gas. Even though the smallest amount of it had already begun to make her go into coughing fits and her eyes stream. The other females had clustered around her when they noted the approaching humans, Iridi lunging with a ferocity that had the human she targeted dropping his weapon and ducking into the crowd. She’d laughed and hunted for another target, but it seemed no matter what planet they were on, the forces sent in retaliated with fully efficient force.

The port guard unit closed in, dropping a smoke bomb directly into their path. The smoke billowed in larger plumes than before as it built upon the smoke already present. It caused enough confusion that Jill hadn’t even seen the male that had come up behind her until she was yanked off her feet and thrown unceremoniously over his shoulder. Her only view had been of Brydis charging after her, his wings flapping uselessly as he tried to gain air. Someone brought a weapon up, but then fell as Iridi crashed into him with a violent shriek. Jill didn’t think she tore him apart—though the expression she wore indicated that she wished to do exactly that—mostly because her mates rushed after her and quickly pulled her free, tucking her between them as they shakily swayed on their feet as the gas and smoke thickened around them.

Tears had filled her eyes as she recalled how Brydis was overcome and fell in a tangle of his own wings. Agor had bellowed in anguish and Jill had wept as Brydis’s taliazon disappeared from the bond. Logically, she knew he wasn’t dead, but the pain of his absence felt as if he was so she hadn’t been able to keep from weeping at his absence and then she screamed in denial even harder when Agor was felled by an electric pulse bolt. The remaining Geminidae fell under the onslaught, the groans of the males were followed by the soft weeping of the females who were among the last of them. It was the memory of Mariia crying out her name, however, that she carried with her as she was hauled along the streets. Her struggling renewed gradually as the fog lifted from her mind and stopped weighing down her limbs. She twisted sharply and received a stinging slap across the back of her thighs in recompense.

“Mellow down,” the man holding her barked. “I will be releasing you shortly. There is a transport just ahead that will get you to a safe place where you will receive physical and psychological treatment for your captivity.”

She shook her head, denial rushing from between her lips without a second thought. “Are you insane? I wasn’t a captive. Those were my mates! You stole me from my family.”

“Fucking alien brainwashing,” he growled to himself, clearly not paying attention to a word she was saying. “Mates indeed. Of course they made you think that. As if kidnapping humans and fouling them up with their alien cocks wasn’t bad enough, they just had to make you believe you are mates so that you’d want to stay. I bet they fed you some bullshit about it being fated and all crap.” He shook his head as he let out a snort of bitter laughter. “You probably think you’re an alien princess and everything.”

“Don’t be delusional. Of course I don’t. But it’s true that they are mine,” she growled back and jerked harder in his grip. “Now, let me go. I have to get back to them!”

“Not happening princess,” he scoffed as he directed his next swat to her ass, the sting of it making her see red.

“Fucking bastard,” she hissed as she wiggled and twisted so violently that she dropped down from his shoulder several inches, forcing him to come to a stop and curse as he tried to retain ahold of her.

Making him fight with their struggle was the perfect distraction too. The moment her knee was aligned exactly where she wanted it, he was none the wiser when she pulled her leg back and swung it forward with every bit of momentum from her flailing body. He screamed in agony and within seconds, she was dropped on the pavement as he quickly scuttled away from her.

“Fuck this shit. I don’t get paid enough to deal with crazy,” he spat.

Jill stood shakily and glared at him. “I told you to release me. I just want to get back to my mates and my friends.”

“Well good luck, by now they’ve all been transported to lockdown. Crazy fucking bitch, kneeing me in the balls for a bunch of aliens,” he groaned.

Giving him one last dismissive look, Jill hurried down the street, her balance gradually steadying as she ran. Redirecting her route back toward the shopping district of the port, she changed her course upon seeing the large transports and roped off streets. Ducking behind a large advertisement screen, she watched as the transports pulled away. The asshole was right. They were gone.

Her jaw tightened as she pushed away from her hiding place and ran down the streets that would take back to the main road. She felt sick and off balance with the absence of the taliazon. Some blind instinctive part of her insisted that she run blindly seeking out their touch, but she was a thinking person and knew it wouldn’t do any good. If they were unconscious, there was no way to know how long she would be out there before either of them came to, and she had no idea where they would be held. There was only one reasonable thing she could do. She would go to the one place where she knew she could find help.

Hopefully, Diane wouldn’t mind paying for the transport.

Chapter36

Brydis groaned as he came to, and his entire body trembled with a lingering pain. Whether it was from the gas playing havoc with his sensitive nervous system or from the brutal fall to the ground he experienced, there was no denying that every inch of him ached. Tucking bruised wings around him, he rolled carefully. Nothing was broken, at least. He could still fly even if it caused him considerable pain.

Raising up on one elbow, he pushed himself into a seated position and looked around groggily. The room was large and reinforced like it was intended for storage with a main hall leading off from it that was heavily guarded. All in all, he didn’t recognize a damn thing.

“Where the fuck are we?” he rasped weakly.

“Confinement until they decide what to do with us,” a male answered miserably.
