Page 16 of Bonded to the Beast

From the moment she woke from her slumber and our eyes met, bond snapping into place, my cock has not gone down yet. I will always be prepared to mate her.

As I start forward her, she squeals again. She says something else in her human language, too quick for me to even try to understand, before she reaches for a thick book she has on the furniture near her bed.

I freeze when I recognize it, even from across her quarters.

Where did she get that?

It looks like it belongs in the archives of Marvo. I should know. The scroll with the matefinder spell had been marked with a sigil such as that.

Is this how she found me? Using her human magic to summon me with an age-old spell? It would explain how I was able to resist the initial call. My magic is long gone, but Iamstill a mage deep down.

And my amazing human mate is a witch in her own right if she can cast spells from a Sombran grimoire.

Seeing the books slaps me right out of my mating haze. I do not know how my mate got her tiny little hands on that book, but it reminds me that I once stole from Duke Haures. I was banished, then left to suffer in the shadows for my crime.

What if he discovers that I found my mate in a human and, instead of immediately leaving the human realm after I claimed her, I lingered because I could not bring myself to leave her bed until it was too late?

The ruler of Sombra can be forgiving when it comes to mate bonds, but I can not break the first law. To do so would be to earn a pair of enchanted chains and a stay in his dungeon. Add that to being a thief and I might be sentenced to execution.

To die after finally finding my mate? After how long I waited for her, and all I survived in the shadows?

I could not risk it.

Besides, this female ismine. She was born for me, meant for me, and she summoned me to her. The gods have given me this glorious beauty, and I will accept their bounty gratefully.

Of course she will be happy and join me in Sombra. It is where I can protect her and keep her close. Provide for her and pleasure her. Love her and worship her. There, I will work hard to find some essence, to earn her mate’s promise, and give her forever.

In Sombra, my mortal will becomeimmortaland I will have forever to learn about this female.

Starting with what exactly she means when she squeals again and says, “Gottabbe sum waytoo git riduvim.”

Is she professing her love to me already? I choose to think so, even as the slightest hint of nerves begins to wind its way into her sweet scent. I understand. Demons are raised with their instincts guiding them to find their forever mate. Maybe it’s not the same for humans. Maybe she is worried that I won’t love her so soon.

She would be mistaken. I’ve loved her from the moment our eyes met, and I’ll love her still with every breath.

We only just met, but she is the reason my heart beats. And if it pleased her, I would give it to her now.

But since I can’t find the words to tell her so, I decide it is time we go home. Once I don’t have to worry about risking the duke’s wrath, I can start working toward showing my mate how no male will love her better than I.

Her funny little nose is buried in the pages of the spellbook. Flipping the pages frantically, as though she’s searching for a spell to re-open the portal that summoned me here from Sombra, I decide to do it for her.

She is full of magic. One of us should be. She can save her stores while I use my demon nature to bring us home.

First, though, I need to gather her close. I doubt she is familiar with travel between planes—Duke Haures isn’t the only demon ruler who has cut off our word from the mortal realm—and I do not want her to be frightened.

She’s still reading as I return to my shadow form, winking out and reappearing in the patch of black hovering in the corner of her quarters. I surprise myself at how easy that was. It seems as if, even in the human realm, a Sombra demon has control over the shadows.

“Hold on tight, my mate,” I tell her, gripping her by her waist and turning her into me.

“Watha—” Her head whips up. She has the same creased look on her adorable face as she did earlier when I hoisted her up and buried my face against her cunt.

“I wish I could,” I tell her honestly. Of course. I can never lie to my mate. “But mating will have to wait until we are back in Sombra.”

“Sombra,” she squeaks. “DidjusaySombra? Lyk mi buk?”

I’m not sure what she means, but I nod because she echoes ‘Sombra’. She must be asking if we are leaving now.

And then, with one quick heft, I lift her so that she is tossed over my shoulder. Portal travel is safe, but I do not trust the shadows of Sombra. Any threat could be waiting for our arrival and I need at least one set of claws free.
