But when I don’t release his thumb, instead taking his arm between two of mine, he goes still.

“Bed,” I say. I use my free hand to wave at it.

“Hinae,” he says. “Loki i Kendee hinae?”

Does that mean’ bed’? I’m thinking it does when he follows my lead, climbing up into the dip in the center of the bed with me.

I’m still holding onto his arm. Looking over at him, I ask, “Is this okay?”

Loki doesn’t understand me. No surprise. But if he’s offering to be my personal heater, it’s the least he can do for me after stealing me. I’m not about to sleep with him again—but I will sleep next to him.

I didn’t really want to sleep on the floor.

Squeezing his arm, I nod. “Yes? Kennedy, yes?”

He rumbles in pleasure.

There’s no other way to describe the noise he makes. Unlike some of his earlier frustrated grunts and growls, my beastly monster’s eyes go impossibly brighter as his chest seems to vibrate—and all because I squeezed one of his big arms between mine, trying to steal as much of his heat as I possibly could.

Little things make him happy, I see.

Then again, as Freya worms her way between us, sleeping between our bodies—and Loki doesn’t try to shoo her away—I realize that little things make me happy, too.

When I wakeup the next morning, it takes me a moment to realize where I am.

It’s darker than it should be. That’s not right. I’m rested, like I’ve slept for hours. It can’t still be night now.

I also shouldn’t be cuddled up against a big, hard body.

Loki’s bright eyes are on a dimmer. I didn’t know he could control them. To keep from disturbing my rest, they’re barely glowing—until he sees that I’m awake. Lips curving, his eyes light up.

My heart jolts, breath catching in my throat as I pop up into a sitting position.

Everything comes rushing back to me. The book. Waking up to find him stalking around my bedroom. The way he pulled me into the closet. The strange portal. The trip to his two-room shelter. Freya.

Freya.

Her fur brushes against my ankle. My movement disturbed her and she lifts her head, chittering softly before she curls up again.

I’m up. She still wants her sleep. And Loki?

I don’t think he slept at all.

In a throaty voice, aware of how intently he’s staring at me, I murmur, “Good morning.”

“Ken-dee mi.”

His hand hovers over my cheek. He wants to touch me, though he’s not sure if I’ll welcome him.

I want to. The urge to tip my head forehead, pressing my skin against his heated palm is almost overwhelming. If I’m going to be stuck here, I should take comfort where I can get it.

If only his didn’t come with strings attached.

I might have woken up facing Loki, curled up against, but I purposely fell asleep with my back to him. As tired as I was, I was viscerally aware of where he was. His heat warmed my skin, and while he didn’t try to initiate sex again, he climbed into the bed naked. We might both be ignoring his monster dick. No matter how I tried to angle my hips away from his groin, I couldn’t avoid bumping into it.

I will admit one thing. Once I put my foot down, Loki is a perfect gentleman. Of course, it’s easy for him to back off when we’ve already slept together. He might think it’s inevitable that we will again. All he has to do is wait.
