Tell her you love her already, I silently screamed at him. But then I caught a warning look from Thatcher, and I bit my lip.

Paul—the typically imperceptive man that he was—was in a relationship with Shelby’s co-worker. But these two had been friends since they were teenagers and, for some unknown reason, neither one of them was brave enough to admit what was so obvious to the rest of us.

They were meant to be.

“Where are you two headed?” I asked.

“Just about to grab some coffee,” Paul said, jerking his head in the direction of another long-standing business, Bluffton Brews. “Do you guys need anything?”

“You’re such a dear,” I crooned, turning to Thatcher. “Isn’t he sweet?”

“Adorable,” Thatcher said, making Paul laugh. “We’re all set, though, thanks, Paul. I don’t think Hattie needs any more caffeine this morning.”

I glared at him, and he winked, the laugh lines around his eyes growing deeper.

Oh, how he’d aged well, my handsome husband.

“We’ll see you later, Ms. Hattie,” Shelby said, giving us a wave. “Bye, Thatcher.”

“Bye, now,” I said as Thatcher lifted his hand. When they were out of earshot, I leaned closer to him, whispering low. “Did you see the way he looked at her? It won’t be long, now. Mark my words.”

“You’re too much, Hattie Reid.”

“You love me anyway.”

“I do. Now, come on. Let’s see if they need any help with inventory.”

I smiled and followed him into the shop, the bell jingling overhead as we entered. “You know, you sure work a lot for someone who’s retired.”

“You’re one to talk,” he shot back, heading for the office.

I watched him go with a smile, then turned in a small circle. Fragrant bouquets surrounded me from all sides, and I took it all in, feeling warm and excited.

The scent of flowers wasn’t the only thing in the air in Bluffton these days. I could feel it. A heavy dose of love was there, too.

And this was only the beginning.
