“I hate that we have to sneak around, but I promise you, sweetheart – one day, I'll tell the world just how much I love you,” he says. Oh my gosh! He finally said it! Eric loves me! I've been waiting for what seems like forever to hear those words come out of his mouth.

“I love you, too,” I say, my heart beating like a drum.

“I was hoping you would say that,” he murmurs. Then, he gently kisses my forehead, and I shiver with anticipation at his loving touch.

I take hold of his large hand and intertwine our fingers. This day trip has been wonderful because we’ve finally declared our adoration for one another, and it feels like we’ll able to take next steps immediately. I’m not sure what the timeline is, but I know that Eric is an honorable man. We’ll be out in public sooner rather than later, and I can’t wait to proclaim my love for this man to the world.

CHAPTER15

Eric

Iwatch Kitty’s hips sway in the breeze as I follow closely behind her. I swear, those damn things are hypnotizing. The curvy girl glances back at me, and the sun illuminates her beautiful features as she smiles. I grin back at her, unable to hide how happy I am right now.

I'm glad our day trip in France went smoothly and even better, that no one recognized me as the Prince of Chromia. As a result, Kitty and I laughed and talked for hours, and I was able to open up to her about my life and future. I told her things I've never told anyone else before; I feel like I can tell her anything.

I follow the sweet girl to her side of the car and open the door for her like a gallant gentleman. Trust me, this is out of character because before I met Kitty, I didn't do much actual dating. With other women, I was just in it for the sex because I've never really been a romantic kind of guy. But this woman makes me sappy. Kitty brings out a better side of me, a side I never before even knew existed, and it’s a total one eighty.

After she climbs inside the car, I close the door behind her and saunter over to the driver’s side before getting in. I have to get Kitty back to Chromia before her parents start to worry, and with a three-hour drive ahead of us, it's starting to get dark. As a result, I speed down the highway, listening to her angelic voice as she sings along with a song that's playing on the radio. I grab her delicate hand and gently stroke it with my thumb. I didn't think I would ever find love because of who I am, but now I know for certain that I’ve found it with this woman. Kitty doesn't care that I'm a prince, or that I'm the heir to a throne. Her heart is pure, and her soul gentle and kind.

“You have such a beautiful voice,” I say.

“Thank you,” she giggles. “Although you wouldn’t know it from that last high-C.”

I chuckle.

“Maybe not, but you really are amazing, sweetheart. You speak French, you have the voice of an angel, and you have a heart made out of gold. I don't know what I did to deserve you,” I say.

“Eric, stop it,” my sweet woman smiles, rolling her eyes.

“No, I mean it. You’re heaven sent,” I say, turning her cheeks a rosy red. “Before I met you, Kitty, I thought I was a total wastrel who deserved the worst in life. But now with you … I don’t know, things are just different.”

“I feel the same exact way,” she says as her eyes twinkle in the evening dusk.

We make it back to Chromia in no time, and I shoot her a glance.

“What street should I take to get to your house?” I ask.

Kitty flushes a bit.

“I live on Gretel Street,” she says. “But maybe you shouldn't take me home.”

I shoot her a sideways look. “Why not?” I ask.

She pauses for a moment, chewing her lip. “No one in my neighborhood drives a car like this, Eric. You'll stick out like a sore thumb if you appear in my neighborhood,” she says. She's right.

“How about we go back to the palace then?” I ask. “It’s still early, and your parents aren’t expecting you for a while.”

“That's probably best,” Kitty agrees. “I just need to be home at a respectable hour, and we’re good.” With that, I make a U-turn and head back in the direction of the castle. I cut through the back roads, avoiding all traffic lights, and the ride is quick.

“Come up for a little bit?” I ask as we near the gates.

She smiles saucily at me.

“I guess I could come up for a little bit,” she murmurs.

With that, Kitty ducks down as I wave at the guard at the gate to let me in. Immediately, the gates open, and I speed down the driveway. Once we're out of the guard’s sight, she sits back up and it’s adorable. Her hair is mussed, and her cheeks pink, but no matter. I pull into the garage and turn the car off.

“Wait here,” I say. She nods, and I get out of the car to make sure the coast is clear. Sure enough, no one is around, so I walk back to the car and open the door for Kitty. “Okay, let’s go.”
