"Okay, I’m done. What is it that you wanted to tell me?" Logan said as he sat beside me.

"Well." I sighed. "When you fired me, I was hurt and thought we were over. I wasn’t sure you really cared about me, and I didn’t want to break your family apart. And I didn’t know I was pregnant. I’m sorry I kept my pregnancy from you all this time."

"Oh, baby, don't worry about it,” Logan reassured me. And then he added, "I was an asshole."

"Yeah. A little," I replied. I placed my hands on each side of his face and said, "I love you, Logan."

"Baby, I love you more," he answered.

Logan's eyes were beaded with tears and so were mine. He kissed me so passionately, then he worked his way down to my breasts and suckled each of them.

“There’s nothing I want more in life than you, Ariane.” As he said those words, I could see in his gaze the fusion of longing and lust, and there was nothing else I wanted to do but give him what he’d been longing for.

Logan picked me up and carried me to the bedroom, laying me down and undressing me. My heart raced with anticipation as I saw his erection bulging in his trousers. When he had finished undressing, I didn’t want to wait any longer. I motioned for him to enter me from behind. He started with gentle thrusts, getting stronger each time, hitting my G-spot just the way I wanted it.

"Don't stop, right there,” I moaned.

"Baby, I don't know how long I can hold it. It's been so long."

“It’s okay, baby. I…I’m so close.” I called out his name lustily as I relished my climax. As he was about to reach his orgasm, I squeezed him tight inside, milking every drop of his release. We collapsed on the bed, Logan shuddering and panting next to me.

The following day, when I finally rolled out of bed to go downstairs for my morning cup of tea and bagel with extra cream cheese, I grabbed my phone off the nightstand to check my notifications. Just like every other morning, there was a voice memo from Logan, telling me he loved me and to call him if I needed anything. There was my usual from Trinity, a few work emails, and one from someone I was completely shocked by. Casey.

She had tried calling me a few times that morning, but I always put my phone on silent before bed, so I never even heard it. When I got her text message asking to meet up again, though, I had a change of heart for some reason. I felt we were in a better position to talk about things. I also felt like the plumpness of my belly would sprinkle a little love on the situation.

We met at a cute little breakfast diner I’d stumbled upon in the city. It was a nice, quiet place where I liked to go and read whenever I couldn’t sleep. They had some of the best teas and coffees I could ever remember tasting, so I always went back. Even if only for the strong scent of freshly ground coffee beans dancing with the different vanillas.

When Casey walked into the diner, she removed her shades and took a good look around. I halfway expected her to turn around and walk out of the place because it wasn’t fancy enough for her liking. But the smile that tore across her face told me she enjoyed the vibe of the place just as much as I did.

Instead of greeting each other right away, we both waited until she had sat down and made herself comfortable, though there wasn’t anything comforting about the situation at all. Casey even looked a little different that morning. She looked tired and worn out. I imagined it was because of her father and me, but I didn’t want to assume.

“This place is nicer than I thought it would be from the outside.” She took a look around again. “I like it.”

“Me too,” I agreed. “It’s very subtle and not so much traffic.”

While she looked at the menu to figure out what she wanted to order, I took a good look at her again. I wondered if my daughter would have some of her features. I wondered if she would look exactly like Casey and her brother. My deepest hope was that she took after me more than she did the Taylors. Not because they weren’t a good-looking family or anything, but because I didn’t want my daughter to remind me of Lucas.

“So,” Casey finally broke the ice. “A baby, huh?”

“Yep.” I slowly nodded. “Very unexpected.”

“Have you thought of a name yet?”

I was surprised to hear her inquiry. Even though the energy didn’t feel as hostile as it did when she’d first found out about her father and me, I did expect her to throw another tantrum before the end of the conversation.

“Not yet. I'm kind of stuck there.”

A light smirk curved the side of her cheek as Casey nodded her head.

“I know my reaction to things wasn’t the best in the beginning.” She chuckled and lowered her head a little. “I was completely caught off guard and just in such disbelief. I guess I really shouldn't have been. I know you're both adults, but I don’t know!” Her chuckle broke into a light laugh. “He’s my dad and you’re my age. I guess I’m just not used to seeing him with someone so young? And then to top it all off, you dated my brother a few years ago.”

Things became awkward again when she talked about Lucas. It was most certainly a conversation that needed to be had, so I held my chin up, ready to talk it out like adults. I realized Casey would be a part of my child's life as well, and she deserved to know the truth.

But before I could say another word, Casey blurted out, “I know about you and Lucas and the way he treated you. And I am sorry, I really am. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive him. He’s my brother and he is trying to change and he’s very sorry for what he did to you.”

I saw tears in Casey’s eyes. “Wow.” She laughed to keep from crying. “I didn’t expect to cry like this. Seriously, Ariane, I am fine with you and Dad.” She touched my belly and said, “I can’t wait to meet my little sister.”

Then I noticed a sudden discomfort in her eyes, as if she had done something wrong. She sighed before continuing. “I have something to confess. When I sensed something was up with you and my Dad, I hired someone to investigate you. And I gave her the key to your apartment to look for more answers. That was the night when you noticed your lockbox was misplaced. I know it was wrong, and I am sorry”.
