Leigh was relieved when the end of the event rolled around. At least at home, she could close her door and ask Morgan not to come in. She and Jake could pretend to be having sex—that had always worked well to keep their previous bodyguards out for a bit. A few feigned noises of pleasure and some banging on the headboard left them free to have a private conversation, as long as they spoke in whispers that someone standing right outside their door couldn’t hear.

Morgan followed her and Jake into the car, but before she could start with her questions again, Leigh faked a huge yawn and laid her head on Jake’s shoulder, promptly pretending to drift off.

She quickly felt bad about this tactic, because Morgan continued to interrogate Jake, and now he was left to face her questions alone, but she wasn’t going to backtrack now.

When they got home, neither Jake nor Leigh needed to fake their exhaustion. Morgan checked their room before allowing them to retire for the night.

“I’ll be up for a while yet. I want to check your security cameras and patrol the outside of the property.”

Leigh’s insides squirmed guiltily. Morgan was doing her best to help them, and she and Jake were making her job very difficult, but what choice did they have?

“Thank you, Morgan. I will see you in the morning.”

“Goodnight, Leigh, Jake.”

Morgan left, giving Leigh and excellent view of her retreating ass. It was stunning. Blushing, Leigh forced herself to look away.

Morgan

Morgan wanted to tear her hair out. Trying to drag answers out of Leigh and Jake was like pulling teeth. She didn’t understand why they would request a bodyguard only to be so wholly uncooperative when she tried to get the information she needed to protect them.

Sure, she could just follow Leigh around and then be ready if anything happened, but being fully prepared and understanding the nature of the threat was crucial to doing her job to the best of her abilities.

Did they not understand that she had to have the full picture if she was going to do her job properly? She had barely gotten any more information out of them than she had received from Gray. It was clear that they were holding back for some reason. The question was, why?

Morgan knew that she had to find out, no matter how resistant Leigh and Jake were to letting her in on the secret. She was going to protect them, despite their own best efforts to the contrary.

She checked the security cameras and, on seeing nothing concerning there, went to patrol the perimeter. She could see everything on the cameras—whoever had set them up had done a good job—but she wanted to familiarize herself with the property as much as possible. If she was going to be chasing suspects or sneaking Leigh and Jake to safety in the event of an attack, she needed to be completely at home with the house and the grounds.

Morgan lost herself in the familiar task of checking an area and getting herself acquainted with all the entry points and other relevant factors. The last thing she needed was to lose her temper with Leigh and Jake and end up getting fired. She needed to remain calm and professional, no matter how much she wanted to throw a fit and demand they tell her everything.

They obviously had some reason for keeping secrets, and that reason was important enough to them to risk their lives over. Morgan feared that if she got herself fired, Leigh and Jake simply wouldn’t hire anyone else, leaving their fate to the police, who had made it clear that they weren’t making any progress on the investigation.

No, Morgan would have to stick it out and try to work with Leigh and Jake as best she could. She would never be able to live with herself if something happened to them simply because she couldn’t keep her own frustration in check.

It didn’t help that Leigh was distractingly beautiful with that long shimmering red hair and her soulful big brown eyes. Leigh’s legs were long and her breasts were full and tempting. She was exactly Morgan’s type—femme and lovely- except that she was engaged and probably straight. Morgan had never seen any evidence that Leigh swung both ways but reminded herself that this wasn’t even an issue. Regardless of Leigh’s sexuality, she wasengaged, and Morgan needed to remember that.

The last thing she wanted to do was come between Leigh and Jake. The two of them clearly adored each other, and they made a wonderful couple.

After patrolling the perimeter, Morgan checked the locks on all the doors and windows before retiring to the guest room. She expected to lie awake for ages, mulling over the mystery surrounding Leigh and Jake, but it had been a trying evening and she soon found herself drifting off.

The next day, Morgan discovered, to her horror, that Leigh liked to go to the gym at five-thirty in the morning. Morgan herself liked to go early, but five-thirty was just cruel and unusual punishment.

“You don’t even work!” she protested. “You can go at any time. And besides, it’ll be crazy busy now, with everyone going before work.”

“Most of my friends work, so we all go together at this time. Come on, Morgan, I want to get there as the doors are opening.”

Morgan grumbled under her breath as she dragged herself into the shower, reviving slightly under the warm spray. She got dressed in her training clothes and followed Leigh to the car.

Leigh was in yellow lycra hot pants and a matching sports bra. She threw on a hoodie to travel, but Morgan couldn’t get the thought of her body barely clothed out of her head.

And she was going to have to watch Leigh in the gym dressed like this for the next hour or so. She looked so different fresh faced, no make up, her hair tied up in a messy bun and Morgan liked this look.

Fuck.

Focus, Morgan.
