She felt for her gift, but the pulse of her gift was not as strong as it once was. She had given too many commands out today between her training and the events of the night. But Fynn wasn't that far away, she could reach out.

Would Sebastian and his soldiers be suspicious of her though? As far as she knew, they did not know about the gifts she and many of the Pontians possessed—although, at this point, anything was possible. Still, she wouldn’t risk it. Just in case. But she was running out of options.

Sweat coated her palms as she dug her nails into the flesh, her knuckles turning white.

Then the soldier fidgeted beside her. And Kallie panicked.

She turned to the soldier who had bound her ankle and pulled at her gift as Kallie gripped the soldier's arm.

“End this.”

Chapter34

The command ranthrough Kallie and into the soldier beside her. The soldier took a step forward, and Kallie's hand fell to her side.

Sebastian's attention flicked toward the movement, granting Fynn the opportunity to slide across the floor as the soldier swung at him with a dagger.

Kallie clasped her hands in front of her mouth.Thatwas not what she had meant when she had told the soldier to end the fight. She should have known to be more careful with her words. But she had panicked. She had been careless. And she yearned to call out to her brother, to apologize to him, to tell him she didn't mean for this to happen.

For any of it.

However, Kallie remained silent, unwilling to add another distraction to the mix as Fynn fought against two opponents.

Kallie glanced at Sebastian as her brother hopped back onto his feet. Sebastian glared at the soldier who dared to interfere, a nameless soldier whose rank Kallie hadn't even bothered to notice. And by the look on Sebastian's face, she knew he felt insulted as the woman came to his aid.

"Return to your post, soldier," Sebastian ordered, focusing his attention back on Fynn.

"Sorry, commander, but I cannot. I must put an end to this," the soldier's words were void of emotion as Kallie's command flowed through her. The soldier would not stop until her task was finished.

Sebastian scoffed and demanded a sword from a nearby soldier who gave it to him willingly. "So be it, but do notget in my way or else it will beyourhead that I will slice off." Sebastian twirled the two swords in his hands, the iron flickering in the moonlight. At the same time, the soldier slinked off to the other side of Fynn, locking him in between them.

Kallie watched as her brother took a deep breath and a scream almost escaped as Fynn closed his eyes.

And his two opponents did not hesitate. They charged.

Sebastian swung high as the soldier slid low across the ground with the dagger in her hand. But before they made contact, Fynn's eyes flung open. He kicked out his foot, locking the woman's outstretched arm in between his legs and knocking the dagger out of her hand while simultaneously dodging Sebastian's attack.

Sebastian had not lost all of his energy yet though and was quick as he swung with the second sword.

Still, Fynn was quicker. He twisted the woman's arm, the cracking of bone loud and the woman's scream that followed even louder. Fynn didn't bat an eye though. He picked up the dagger laying at the soldier's feet and braced himself against the wall of the ship as the clang of metal mixed with the sobs of the woman. Sebastian pushed against the dagger, but Fynn was unrelenting as he shoved back. Sweat gleamed on Fynn's forehead, his teeth clenching.

And Kallie could have sworn that at that moment her heart stopped as she watched her brother struggle against the prince.

Meanwhile, the soldiers around her became restless. Hungry. One moved forward, weapon drawn. But the soldier was slow, and Fynn easily knew what was going to happen as the soldier approached clumsily with his sword. At the last minute, Fynn let one hand free. He turned the enemy's sword on him. And the man was impaled by his own sword before he even saw it coming. The soldier fell backward and into another soldier, the weight of the first causing the second soldier to topple over.

In one movement, Fynn returned his hand to the dagger and with renewed vigor, pushed back. Sebastian's foot slipped an inch as Fynn used his entire body weight to push against Sebastian. But then another soldier stepped over the two bodies on the floor.

And another.

Until several charged forward and chaos broke out on the ship. As though the Frenzians were starving animals with a grand feast placed before them, they pounced on Fynn.

And even with his ability to read their minds, Fynn was helpless as they came at him with weapons drawn. There were too many minds to read, too many weapons to dodge. Their swords slashed against his clothes, his skin. Blood splattered across the floor.

Enemy or friend, Kallie didn't know. Only stood there in horror, unable to form words. Unable to form a thought as she stood paralyzed. Unable to do anything but watch her brother get swamped by rabid men.

She heard screaming.

So much screaming.
