And she gave in to it.

She stepped closer to him, placing one hand on his chest and the other around the back of his neck. His hand found her waist and pulled her closer while his other hand slid across her collarbone.

Graeson leaned in, his voice low and sultry in her ear, "Have I mentioned how breathtaking you look?"

Goosebumps sprinkled across her skin and she tilted her chin up. "No, I don't believe you have."

"Hmm. . ." The sound vibrated against her skin. His lips brushed behind her ear and she had never realized how sensitive that little spot was before. And she didn't know how much longer she could restrain herself. This entire time she had been trying to maintain her distance from him in an attempt to prevent any feelings from developing and clouding her judgment. But she wanted to claim those lips.

She wanted to claimhim.

She inhaled. But it was unhelpful as the smell of him, cedar and lemons mixed with cigar smoke, filled her lungs. She shut her eyes, biting the bottom of her lip.

"Kalisandre."

And there it was again. Her name on his lips. She opened her eyes and looked up at him through her lashes. "Yes?"

"Stop that," his voice was a warning, deep and husky.

"Stop what?" She was practically out of breath as she stared at him, her heart hammering against her chest.

"That." The tip of his finger brushed across her lips and the touch sent a shiver to the bottom of her core. He dragged her lip down. "Biting your lip."

She hadn't realized she was even doing it or that he would even notice. But she refused to give him what he wanted. "And why should I stop?"

"Because if you continue to do that, I will stop holding back." The way his eyes darkened and simmered behind his mask, flicking to her red lips had Kallie wishing he would do just that.

"Is that a threat or a promise?" Kallie challenged, something other than the lavender drink filling her body, making her feel warm inside. She wanted to test the limits of this game they were playing. And the liquid coursing through her only gave her the push she needed.

She pursed her lips to the side, the top of her right cheek brushing against her mask.

He released a rough, almost feral sigh. But he didn't pull her in, only continued their dance.

The music shook the floor, shaking her core.

Or was that her heart shaking on its own?

And just when she thought he wasn't going to do anything, his grip on her waist tightened. He tugged her toward him, her chest pressing up against him. His eyes flitted over her as if debating on whether he wanted her to break her word or not. But he did not close the distance between them.

Not at first.

Not until her eyes dropped to his lips, then back to his eyes. And she stared back at him with the same desire, the same hunger in her eyes. And then she bit her lip.

Chapter29

Graeson claimed her mouth. And like the first time, his lips were soft as they ran over hers. When he pulled away, his teeth pulled her bottom lip, doing well on his promise. But unlike the first time they kissed, she would not forget this kiss when she woke up in the morning.

Even still, the kiss was too quick, too fleeting, and left her wanting more. And she questioned whetherhehad fallen into her trap or ifshehad fallen for his. She wrapped her hands around his neck and yanked him toward her, their lips smashing together almost painfully.

In this moment and this moment alone, she didn't care who was the prey and who was the predator. She needed the warmth, the softness of his lips on hers. The desire burning through their touch.

She didn't care if she was breaking her word. Because at that moment, in a crowded room, no one knew who either of them was. Here in this cavern, she wasn't a princess of any kingdom, she wasn't kidnapped, she wasn't promised to another man. Or confused about where her loyalties lay. She was a woman who desired the man in front of her. And at that moment, she would allow herself to claim him as much as he wanted to claim her.

Kallie leaned into him, sliding her hands from his neck into his hair. Her fingers dug into his soft hair that felt like water running through her fingers. She pulled at his lip with her teeth. And the sound that came from Graeson was guttural as one hand slid up her back resting at the nape of her neck. His other hand ventured below her waist.

And for a split second, she wanted to pull away. Not because she was uncomfortable having him kiss her like this in a public place—identities hidden or not—but rather because she wanted him to herself. She didn't want to share this moment with anyone else.

And she wanted to be honest with him.
