How do I make her understand that she’s wrong?

It’s almosteight when I receive a text from Piper. She’s going to play at the train station. I swear sometimes she doesn’t care about her safety. Thankfully, I have time to search for her. When I find her, I notice a big crowd around her. Piper’s eyes are closed, and she’s playing with love and sorrow. She’s hurting, and there’s not much I can do for her.

As I walk around searching for the guy that might be spying on her, I spot Finn in a corner, almost hiding. This guy is more afraid of CCTVs than Zamudio.

“What are you doing here?”

He shrugs. “I like her music.”

“Do you come here often?”

“It’s not the first time I’m about to board the train, and I’ve spotted her. She should do this professionally.”

“She does,” I whisper.

“You know her?”

I nod. “She’s my boss and is also known as Piper—the musician.”

He arches an eyebrow. “That’sthe Piper?”

“Yes.”

“And you work for her?”

“I do.”

“Small world, huh?”

“You can say that.” I look around the area, making sure there’s no one creeping around or hiding. If this Archer guy is around, I can follow him and either offer him protection or a ticket to fucking hell.

“You’re looking for someone?”

“No, just making sure there aren’t any stalkers. She doesn’t have a sense of self-preservation.”

He snorts. “So after this impromptu concert, you get to take her home?”

“No, I’ll probably have to walk with her to wherever she wants to donate the money. Then, I’ll walk her home.”

“You two are still in denial?” He snorts. “Well, if you don’t make a move, I might. From this angle, she looks cute, and if her personality is as fucking awesome as her music, then I think we can get something going.”

I almost laugh and realize that I keep Finn at arm’s length because I’m waiting for Piper. In another life, maybe the three of us could work. In this one, we should probably stay away from each other.

“Stay away from Piper Cooperson.”

His head snaps. “What did you say her full name is?”

“Piper Cooperson,” I repeat. “Stay away.”

Finn grins. “I have a meeting. Are you sure you’ll be keeping an eye on her?”

“Of course, why do you care?”

He shrugs. “I don’t. See you around, asshole.”
