My lips stretched into a smile because I had experienced that before while playing the piano at school. Archer was around. My music always changed when he was in the same room. It just did. I didn’t open my eyes. I just continued playing.

I played with my heart.

Archer was like the violin, a piece of me—an extension of my soul.

After that, I couldn’t see my life without Archer by my side. When I finished and I finally opened my eyes, I found him right in front of me.

“Hi,” I said.

Archer grinned. “That was pretty cool.”

“You should come more often.” Papa Chris looked at Archer. “She sounds different when you’re around.”

“I didn’t know you were going to be here.”

He moved his left arm, and I realized he was carrying a gift. “Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, and we’re leaving town. I convinced Dad to allow me to come over so I can give you your present.”

I gasped, covering my eyes. I didn’t wrap his present. Mom said we wouldn’t be able to see him until after the new year.

“One second.” I ran toward Mom’s craft room.

She was there knitting a blanket for my new little sister, who was arriving in late March. The prospect of having another girl in the house thrilled me. I loved my four brothers, but we were missing another girl in the house.

“What’s going on, sweetie?” Mom asked as I almost tripped on her knitting basket.

“Archer is here,” I informed her, trying to catch my breath. “And I need to wrap his present. Can you help me, pretty please?”

“That’s an unexpected visit. Let me grab a gift bag and some tissue paper, and then we can go to your room to get it, okay?”

After we finished wrapping the present, I ran back to the living room, finding Archer sitting next to Tucker and looking very uncomfortable.

I glared at my brother. What did he do to him? “Why are you here?”

I love my brother, but sometimes he could be mean to other people. Not with me, but I’ve seen him being mean to my dads and mom.

Tuck shrugged. “I heard you had a visitor, and I wanted to meet him.”

“Are you going to be nice?”

He gave Archer a suspicious look. “That depends. Is he nice to you?”

“He’s the best,” I assured him.

“I’m going to marry her,” Archer said, and I facepalmed my forehead.

He has to stop telling people that. I hated when people made fun of us.

“Whoa, buddy.” Tucker glared at him. “She’s only six.”

“I know. We’re not going to date until we’re fourteen, and I cannot propose until I am eighteen.” He tapped his chin. “No, I think it’s until she’s eighteen.”

“How are you going to support her?” Papa Chris chimed in.

“I’m going to be a pilot. I’ll make money flying people in my jet. If not, I’ll work for Dad. He has a company.”

Tucker shook his head. “You’re too young to think about marriage.”

Archer rolled his eyes, then looked at me. “Can I give you your present now? The driver is outside waiting for me. Dad needs him back before lunchtime.”
