I should discuss this with my therapist. Well, I could if I hadn’t fired him. It was well deserved. He didn’t help me remember shit, and, every session, he made me so fucking angry I had to go to the gym to work out the rage.

The only people who have helped me so far are Phillip, former Delta Force, and Walter, former MI6. I might not remember who I was, but I’m beginning to enjoy the person I can become with their help. This weekend I’ll be going with Walter to a training camp.

My goal was to apply for a job at an agency after I’m done with college and training, but after my conversation with Ms. Cooperson, I’m wondering if I can start a security company. I could help others and eliminate men like Ricardo Zamudio.

So far, Charles has helped me accomplish all my goals. Would he support me with this too?

While we’re having dinner, I decide to bring that into our conversation. “Who took care of the Zs?”

He puts down his spoon and looks at me before asking, “Excuse me?”

“As I recall, you called someone to exterminate them. They failed, but…” I shrug. “Who were they?”

“Ah, yes. Eros and his brothers-in-law hired a private security company. They use people who are trained to protect and defend.”

“So, like the CIA, FBI, Special Forces, but they don’t report to the government?”

He shrugs. “Yes, something like that.”

I snort. “But they didn’t do what we needed huh?”

“They tried their best. Since they failed, Eros hired a second company to have security on the farm at all times. We don’t know if Ricardo will return, but we want to ensure that our people are safe.”

I nod and smirk. “If I had a company like that, I could protect your farm and people like you.”

He groans. “You have to stick to one thing, Finn. Why don’t you concentrate on your classes? I know Walter and Phillip are helping you. Once they believe you’re ready, we can discuss this new idea.”

“You would support it?”

Charles smiles and nods. “Of course. They’re impressed with your skills and how fast you learn. Walter mentioned something about recruiting you for MI6.”

Don’t I need to be British to be able to… well, who cares about the requirements? “I’d rather start my own company if you allow me to do it.”

He runs his fingers across the desk and nods. “We’ll come back to this conversation when the time comes.”

Satisfied with his answer, I say, “I can do that.”

Charles returns his attention to his soup, but before he can scoop a spoonful, he asks, “What happened with the book you wanted to write?”

“The imprint Persy recommended says it’s good, but they’d like me to make a few changes to it.” I shrug. His goddaughter, or whoever she is, was very helpful. She sent me the information on how to submit it. “I need to read some craft books and figure out the element of romance I can add to the story. They don’t want it to be heavy, but I guess if the hero has an anchor… I don’t know how it’ll help him. I have to read before I understand that.”

“Romance? I thought it was a thriller.”

“It is. Ms. Cooperson wanted me to add some elements.” I scratch my head. “Well, it’s more complicated than that. I have to have three people in love. I’ve watched porn with two men and a woman. A relationship might be a lot more complicated.”

Dad chuckles. “They aren’t simple. I tried it once, but it didn’t work for me.”

“Huh, that’s interesting. Was it Eros’s parents?”

He shakes his head. “Octavio is my best friend, like a brother. The relationship I’m talking about happened during my thirties. The former CEO of my company was attractive, and I was lonely. He and his wife offered their bed and company. I confused it with love. We weren’t meant to be.”

Dad sighs and shakes his head. “I’m not saying they don’t work out, but you have to find a balance.”

I can balance the two people that live in my head. How hard can it be to do it in print? Will I ever have a relationship with a real person?

“Are you okay, Finn?”

“I wonder if I’ve ever been in love.” I shrug. “Sometimes I feel like someone is missing… as if I lost a limb or my heart. Is that stupid? Having to deal with this book is making me wonder so many things.”
