I nod. “They’re brothers.” My shoes squeak against the epoxy floor as I shift from one foot to the other.

“One of them is dead already.” Severino raises a brow.

“He got a little cocky.” I grab Mikey and drag him out of the car.

He collapses onto the floor at my feet.

“I saved you the one who matters,” I add.

Severino strokes his chin with satisfaction.

I chose my wording carefully, wanting to give Severino the impression Mikey was the one who killed Tommaso. He was involved, so that’s all that matters.

He can take the credit.

I don’t need public applause for anything I do.

I did it for one reason—my wife.

Mikey shimmies along the floor, as if he can escape, so I kick him.

“Do you want me to wait around and dispose of the bodies?” I ask, grabbing Mikey and Brian’s wallets from their pockets and plucking out their IDs.

Severino gives Mikey another kick when I’m finished. “No, I got this.” He claps me on the back. “I appreciate you bringing them to me.”

“Luca, you stay and help,” I instruct.

Luca nods.

Even if I’m handing the bodies to Severino, I still need all my bases covered, which includes ensuring the bodies disappear after they finish. No body, no case. I don’t doubt Severino’s skills since he’s one of the best in the game, but there’s no such thing as being too careful.

“Is Neomi’s car here?” I ask Severino.

He nods. “The Range Rover on the very end. Keys are in it.”

“Thanks.” I salute them. “You boys have fun.”

Neomi has complained she wants her car, but I told her it wasn’t necessary when she couldn’t drive anywhere solo.

I’ll have two surprises for her this evening.

It’sten at night when I get home.

After leaving Severino’s, I made two pit stops.

The first was to the club to handle business.

The second was to the mansion to inform my father of the Mikey and Brian situation. It wasn’t an appropriate phone conversation.

I pull up the drive to the house. If you’d told me a year ago that Neomi and I would be living in my grandparents’ home, I’d have laughed in your face. I knew it wasn’t my style when we moved into the brick raised-ranch home, but now, I’ve felt nothing but comfort.

I tell the outside guards they can retire for the night and twirl Neomi’s keys between my fingers while strolling up the stone walkway into the house.

I shut off the alarm and hear the TV playing in the bedroom. I kick off my shoes, and Romeo meets me in the foyer. I sent him a heads-up text that I was on my way home so he wouldn’t be worried when the alarm set off.

I thank him for watching them, we say goodbye, and I stroll into the living room when he leaves. Neomi, Bria, and Isabella are on the couch, snuggled together and sleeping.Buffy the Vampire Slayerplays on the TV.
