Five Days before the Wedding
Tonight is my engagement party.
In five days, I’ll be a mob wife.
A Marchetti.
My engagement with Benny has been called one for the books.
A power play of two menacing families joining forces.
I haven’t spoken to Benny since the night at the gala months ago. I’m still pissed he ripped my dress.
When I got home that night—and for days after—I ran my fingers over my neck where he’d bitten me,marked me. As if I were his to mark. But I also hate how disappointed I was when his mark started fading.
If he thinks I’ll fall to my knees and worship him as a wife, he’s dead wrong.
I’ll be the opposite to spite him.
To spite my father for making such an important decision for me.
He stopped me from finding true love and thrust me into the arms of the prince of darkness. Love is no longer on the table for me, thrown out with yesterday’s trash.
On the ride here, I swore to myself I’d ignore Benny.

So, I did that as soon as I walked into the Marchetti mansion, his father’s home. I’ve avoided all eye contact. When he approaches a group I’m in, I quickly make an excuse and hurry away.
We are not the happily engaged couple.
We are the victims of a forced marriage.
“You can run away from me all you want, but I’ll always find you,” he says when I walk out of the bathroom.
I slap a hand to my chest. Benny’s voice caught me off guard. I turn to find him leaning against a wall, a drink in his hand, staring me down like I’m his next victim.
“But I demand respect when we’re in public,” he continues.
The smell of him lingers around us when I walk in his direction. My mouth waters at the sight of him.
Since I’ve been on my ignore kick, I haven’t had the chance to appreciate how gorgeous the man I’m marrying is. Benny might be corrupt and depraved on the inside, but the outside of him is nothing but beauty.
Perfection.
It’s what makes him so dangerous.
