“Why the hell wouldn’t you think it was a problem?” Neomi yells.

My little unwanted wife didn’t realize I make right with my threats.

A lesson learned for her.

I angle my body toward her. “You walked into the room and walked out, so I thought everything was fine.”

No, I didn’t.

I wanted to piss her off.

See her angry.

Neomi snorts.

“But then,” I continue, “she comes in with this dead motherfucker here.” I kick Alden’s lifeless piece-of-shit body. “Drops to her knees and unbuckles his pants to suck his—”

“Don’t you dare fucking say it,” Severino interrupts.

“An eye for an eye, Benny boy,” Neomi gloats. “You don’t want to be faithful in this marriage, then I don’t have to be either.”

“That’s bullshit,” I hiss, the shame of my behavior creeping in.

This conversation needs to end, pronto.

“What’s bullshit is, you think it’s okay for me to walk in and see this woman sucking you off.” Neomi makes a sweeping gesture toward Gretchen, as I did with Alden. “You’re lucky I didn’t kill her.” She makes eye contact with Gretchen. “Sorry, not sorry.”

Gretchen cries harder.

My head throbs, and I hope to God Neomi doesn’t attempt to make right with her threat. As if I’m not the only one with that thought, my cousin Luca rushes to Gretchen and escorts her out of the room.

“The party is over,” my father says, straightening the lapels of his black blazer. “You have ten minutes to exit, or my security will escort you out. And trust me, they won’t be gentle.”

Guests scatter out of the room like roaches, and my father slams the door shut behind them, leaving only Severino, Neomi, him, and me in the billiards room.

My father stares at me in disappointment. As the next in line to the Marchetti throne, I’m supposed to represent the family respectfully. Losing my cool and murdering someone at the mansion while filled with people was a stupid move.

Severino huffs while inspecting Alden’s body. “Be glad his father had to cancel at the last minute. We do millions in business. If he finds out you murdered his son, it will interfere with that.”

“Alden left the party hours ago,” I say matter-of-factly before locking eyes with Neomi. “I’m sure your daughter was careful and made sure no one saw them.”

My jaw clenches at my words. Even though I don’t want to marry Neomi, I’ll be damned if she gets on her knees for any other man besides me.

Severino joins me in staring his daughter down. “Go home and clean yourself up, Neomi.”

Neomi stubbornly crosses her arms and doesn’t move.

“Unless you’d like to help my son dispose of this man’s body, I’d recommend listening to him,” my father tells her, running his hand over his jaw.

Neomi grimaces and draws back a few steps. She might throw out attitude toward others, but my father is on a different playing field regarding disrespect.

“I guess red isn’t my best color,” she says, staring down at her dress.

“Have Alfonso drive you back,” Severino tells her.

I raise a brow. “Who’s Alfonso?”

“My bodyguard.” Neomi grins. “He’s hot as fuck.”
