Even if he is, it won’t be for long.

Blood pools around him.

I draw my gun from my pocket. Kurt’s body doesn’t move at the impact.

I grab a towel and toss it at Diego. “Clean this up. Take the body to Viktor at the funeral home and have him fry it. Then, flush his remains down the toilet.”

Diego nods.

Raul salutes me. “Got it, boss.”

* * *

I peerup from my computer when Raul steps into my office.

“Job is done, boss.”

“Thank you.” I open a drawer, remove the stacks of cash I took from the safe earlier, and place them on the desk. “Payday for you and Diego.”

He grins. “Thank you. Tomorrow is my girl’s birthday.”

“Buy her something nice.”

He takes the cash and shoves it into his pocket. Diego is his brother, and they always collect each other’s money.

Raul bounces on his toes. “That’s your future wife, huh?”

I rub the tension at the back of my neck. “That’s her.”

“She’s cute.”

“She’s fucking crazy.”

“Cute, though.” He fishes a cigarette from his pocket and sticks it into his mouth. He won’t dare light it in my office though. “When do you think you’ll tie the knot?”

“Unfortunately, I have no say when our day comes.” I jerk my head toward the door. “Take tomorrow night off and treat your girl to a nice dinner at L’ultima Cena. I’ll tell them to add the bill to my tab.”

When he leaves my office, I kick my feet onto the desk and relax against my leather chair.

There are many reasons I don’t want to marry Neomi Cavallaro.

Years ago, my father went to Severino, her father, after the Morozovs—a rival family who disappeared from the city after we were done with them—murdered my mother. He asked Severino to connect him with his weapons suppliers, cease any sales with the Morozovs, and have his back if they went to war. Since the Marchettis and Cavallaros had been allies for decades, Severino could’ve simply said yes.

But he didn’t. He gave my father a stipulation.

He’d agree to his requests if I married his eldest daughter.

My father came to me before signing the contract and explained the situation. I wanted vengeance for my mother and agreed. He told me we wouldn’t have to marry immediately, but when the time was right. So far, that time hasn’t come.

If tonight has told me anything, it’s that marrying Neomi Cavallaro will send my world into a tailspin. My life is stressful enough. I’ll take a hard pass on the out-of-control wife. Her behavior at the club gave me an idea of who I’ll have to marry.

My men didn’t know who Neomi was when they called me into the security room. They only wanted me to be aware Kurt had returned to the club and was causing trouble. When I stared at the screen, my heart rate doubled. I hadn’t seen Neomi in years, but her face isn’t one you forget.

Just as I was about to charge out of the room, I heard, “Boss, she just stabbed the motherfucker,” and then the room erupted in laughter.

My cock jerks when I think about her stabbing him and how she challenged me in my office. I shut my eyes and wish I weren’t replaying how intoxicating it was when I gripped her hair.

God, how I wanted to fuck that back-talking mouth until she could no longer speak.
