“I get it. Maybe there was part of me that should have said something before, but I didn’t want to rock the boat. I guess I didn’t think it was that big of a deal.”

“It’s not. But I hurt you when I made you think I doubted your love. That is what I’m sorry about. I don’t doubt it. You’ve been annoyingly persistent in showing how much you love me today.”

She smiled at him and poked him in the side with her finger. “All I have to do is be annoying to show you how much I love you? Shit, I can handle that.”

She did well handling him too for the next few hours. There was a knock at the door around seven. “I’m sure that is Trent.”

“Why is he knocking?” she asked when she got up to get it.

“Because he knows you’re here.”

“But as you’ve said, you can’t do much more than talk to me. It’s not like he’s going to catch us doing anything else.”

“True,” he said.

She opened the door and Trent walked in. “Sorry I’m not getting here until now,” Trent said. “I was in court when it all went down. All I can say is I’m glad Raina kept giving me updates so I could read them and calm down before I talked to someone.”

“I’m fine,” Jonah said. “Just another scar to my mug shot.”

Megan rolled her eyes. “He’s cracking jokes. His version of them. That tells you he’ll be fine.”

“I never doubted it. Damn, it smells good in here. What did you eat?”

“Just spaghetti with meat sauce. There is a lot left over. Do you want me to warm you up some?” she asked his brother.

“If you don’t mind,” Trent said. “That’d be great.”

Megan got up and went to the kitchen and Trent moved over to sit down. “I’m fine,” he said quietly.

“You sure?” Trent asked. “I can stay here tonight on the couch if you want or if she needs help.”

“Please no,” he said. “She’s worse than Mom.”

“Good,” Trent said. “You need someone to keep you in line. The head okay?”

“It’s good,” he said. He was telling the truth. The meds hit and took the edge off to the point he was just more sore than anything else. It was livable for sure.

“Glad to hear,” he said.

Megan returned with Trent’s plate and Jonah watched TV while his brother ate and talked about his day. Not much more really, other than they were relaxing. Then Trent left and Jonah said he wanted to get ready for bed.

“I’m sure you’re tired,” she said. “It’s been a trying day.”

“To say the least,” he said. “Are you going to let me get ready by myself or watch me like a hawk again? I can assure you I can piss on my own.”

“Darn. Here I wanted to hold it for you.”

“Not a chance,” he said and stood up to walk into the bathroom. “You don’t have to come to bed this early.”

“I’m not going to. I’ll watch some TV and then come to bed once I know you’re sleeping. I just want to make sure you’re settled and have what you need.”

She left him alone to get ready and then he undressed and got in bed while she brought him a bottle of water to put within reach. He definitely appreciated that.

He shut his eyes and was asleep within minutes.

He only wished he could have stayed that way when he woke up the next morning to the room spinning.
