She slapped his arm. “That’s mean.”

“You said no more secrets with my family, right? I’m only listening to the woman I love!”

“Did we beat you to it?”Carolyn asked into the phone later that night to Jolene. Her sister-in-law, Diane, her husband, and brother-in-law were sitting with her.

“Dang it,” Jolene said. “Are you going to tell me there was an engagement at the party today? What is it with your Memorial Day parties and engagements?”

“People go into labor at your parties,” Diane said.

“Good point,” Jolene said. “Who got engaged?”

“Jonah and Megan. Nothing on Faith and Sawyer?” she asked.

“Nope. My niece keeps her distance from me and I have to pretty much beg my brother for information,” Jolene said.

“That must rub you the wrong way,” Carolyn said.

“My family loves doing that to me. It’s all good. I’m still working it. Anything on Chloe and Royce?” Jolene asked.

“Nothing new to report there,” she said. “I’m just happy we got Megan and Jonah done. Diane and I didn’t do much with this one. The same with Chloe.”

“That’s right,” Grant said. “The men are the heroes for them.”

“Just like you put your foot in your mouth on New Year’s Eve?” Garrett said.

“Don’t remind me,” Grant said. “So we had a few hiccups, but it all ends well.”

“It does,” Jolene said. “Let's hope I get a good ending for my niece. I still think Faith cares more for her dog than she does a man. Maybe that is the problem.”

“You work on her,” Carolyn said. They hung up the phone and she turned to the rest of them in the room. “That was fun today. I can’t believe you two men kept it a secret from Megan.”

“It was close on Grant’s end,” Garrett said. “He was smiling like a fool on Friday in front of Megan. Good thing Jade caught him and pulled him aside.”

“Sorry,” he said. “It just got me thinking of how good we are at this.”

“We are, aren’t we?” Garrett asked. “Just remember that, ladies.”

“We’ll let you take this one,” Carolyn said.
