Jonah walked away. “Dang it,” Jami said. “I guess I pushed too hard there.”

“If you don’t push at all it isn’t going to happen. You see what I see, right?”

“You mean noticing my son has his eye on Megan? Yeah. I have, but I haven’t heard anything about her since the party two months ago. They seemed to hit it off but went their own way.”

“Last night went well and today seems to be too. We’ve got to push while we can now. You might have to bring your daughter in on this. I could try to get Ryder involved but not sure he will do it. Megan does work for Kara, but she’s quiet too.”

“We’ll have to figure this out. No reason to push too much tonight. It’s Raina’s day.”

“It is,” Diane said. “It doesn’t mean we can’t hope to start something new for someone else though.”

A Soft Spot

“Ineed a shower in the worst way,” Megan said on the dance floor.

Tori and Chloe from her office were out there with her. She loved Chloe who had a nice dry wit. “Me too,” Chloe said. “Or a sponge bath in the restroom. I might grab one of the dinner napkins and soap up a towel and wipe up all the important parts. I’ve got deodorant in my purse too.”

“I’m all for a good workout,” Megan said, “but not in a dress.”

And not when she was trying to get the attention of a hot man on top of it.

Had she seen Jonah’s jaw drop and his eyes on her when she walked down the aisle hours ago? Yep, she had, but she was pretty sure her face was mirroring his.

Oh my, she was right when she said he was going to look smoking in a tux.

Black suit, white shirt, light green tie and flower on the jacket.

They’d posed for pictures. They’d had their hands on each other respectfully for many of them as a couple. What she wouldn’t have given for it to be something a little less respectful but then had to remind herself this was her best friend’s wedding.

“Tell me about it,” Tori said. “I think I’ve got to sit the next one out. My feet hurt.”

“We don’t have shoes on,” she said, looking down. They’d all ditched their shoes an hour ago. Though her shoes were comfortable to wear, they weren’t to dance in. Not the way they were all dancing on the floor.

When the music stopped, Chloe said, “Bath time. Who is in with me?”

“I’ll pass,” Tori said. “I’m hitting the bar and getting a drink and standing in front of one of the fans over there.”

There were large ones in the corners half hidden to circulate the air conditioning on this hot end-of-July day.

“I’m with you,” Megan said.

Chloe grabbed her purse off the table she was sitting at and stole a clean napkin on the way too. “No, I’m not soaping this up, but I will use it to dry off. It’s clean. No one was sitting in that chair.”

“We can share it,” she said.

When they got to the bathroom, the first thing they did was grab some paper towels and wet them with cool water and put some soap on them. She just lifted her arms and washed up. She didn’t think she stunk, but there was part of her that was terrified she might.

Chloe did the same, then pulled a small travel-sized bottle of spray deodorant out of her purse and passed it to her. She didn’t hesitate to put it on.

“There,” Chloe said. “I feel somewhat better. I think I need to sit a few dances out for a bit. The bar sounds like the place to be too.”

Megan went to the bathroom quickly and left, stopping to get a drink too and moving back to her table to sit. Jonah was there by himself and she decided it was a good time to relax.

“Having fun here all by your lonesome?”

“It’s not that bad,” he said, putting his beer to his lips. “I’ve been watching everyone else. That alone is entertaining.”
