“Not like you think. A plank is a great move for anyone, but that doesn’t mean I’m practicing my downward dog or mountain pose.”

“Oh my, you know the moves.”

He laughed at her and heard a snicker not that far away from someone leaving the gym. “I know more than you think. It’s part of my job.”

“Have you thought about what I said about getting some yoga classes upstairs?”

“I have,” he said. “I’ve got to look at what slots I’ve got open for the space and find instructors. I structure things differently here than most.”

“I think day classes might be good for yoga,” she said. “You could get some people who don’t have other jobs here then.”

“Retired people?” he asked.

“Is that a problem?” she asked. “Or not the clientele you want?”

“I want any clientele, but I do have a reputation here. That doesn’t mean I can’t expand it and during the day it’s not as busy. It is a thought. Again, need to look at my schedules and go from there.”

“I’m not retired and love yoga. It’s calming after a long day at work. Or a frustrating call from my mother.”

He shook his head. She’d been good about not cracking too many jokes but slipped them in there. “I can relate with the last one.”

“Can’t everyone?” she asked. “What is that machine?”

“We are going to work your abs differently than you are used to. I’ll show you what you need to do.” He found it was easier with this. He got between the bars, hopped up and put his forearms down, his hands gripping the posts and his legs would be hanging down off the floor, but he was too tall for the settings so he bent his knees so that his upper body was keeping his legs hanging there, then started to lift his knees up to his chest nice and slow. “This is going to work everything at once. Your upper body, abs and back. A lot of muscles are isolated while you do it.” He dropped down. “Need help getting up?”

She got in place and put her arms up, and he reached for her waist and lifted her and made sure she was set. The two of them made eye contact and held it. It’s not like he hadn’t touched her before. They’d danced a handful of times at his sister’s wedding weeks ago.

“Thanks,” she said quietly. “Like this?”

“Yes,” he said and watched her go through her reps. He was glad they were almost done because this had been one hell of a test of his control.

They moved to two more machines and then got on the mat while he walked her through a series of different stretches and then helped her up.

“That was great,” she said. “I feel good and I think I’m going to sleep like a baby.”

The gym was shutting down around him. Stephanie had been walking around and closed the back up and all he had to do was lock up at this point.

“I’ll walk out with you, if you want to wait a minute.”

“Sure,” she said, grabbing her shorts and T-shirt and pulling them on.

Jonah went to the desk, locked the computer, grabbed the money that was there, which wasn’t much, and brought it to his office to lock in the safe and then came out.

“Let’s go,” he said.

They got to the parking lot. “Thanks. You really know what you’re doing.”

“We all have to find what we are good at in life,” he said.

“I’d say you have. You might have convinced me to get a membership here.”

“That’s the goal,” he said.

They were staring at each other as if both wanted someone to make a move, but neither of them was doing it. She’d commented that she wasn’t sure what she was looking for and he wasn’t either.

If it wasn’t for his sister, he might have done more, but he just wasn’t sure himself.

They got in their cars and drove away, him going home to shower and get something to eat.
