Five years.I had to keep telling myselffive years.

“Well, as long as there are no more questions, shall we begin?” He walked over to entrant number one and escorted her out the doors.

Three minutes later, she came back and ran over to a big screen. It wasn’t on before, so I hadn’t noticed it. The size alone should have stuck out to me, but I was nervous.

On the left side, it said entrant number, bid amount, and purchaser number. On the right of the screen was entrant number two, walking onto the stage. He did a little twirl and blew a kiss to the crowd.

Number one screamed and jumped.

On the left side of the screen, her information showed up.

Entrant Number: 1

Bid Amount: $100,000

Purchaser Number: 54

One after another, men and women were ushered to the stage. The rich went first. My number was ninety-nine, so I had a while to go.

The girl in the oversized hoodie walked onto the stage and danced while taking off her hoodie. She stood in ripped jeans and a bra. The crowd hooted and hollered. An elite would definitely buy her.

Bowtie man grabbed the next entrant, so she was ready when the bra girl returned. My heart sank, I hadn’t noticed her before. My observation skills really needed some work.

I should have known she would be here. It didn’t matter that she was here. Unless they purchased us together, then I would be stuck with someone who hated me for the next five years. Ugh, I wasn’t even sure why she hated me so much.

Big Booty Judy flicked her red hair back and turned to me. She winked, then walked onto the stage.

There were still ten entrants between her and me. This meant she would come back and talk to me or find a way to ruin my day. It was no secret she didn’t like me, shit, she didn’t like anyone. I just assumed I was at the top of her list for most hated.

I moved chairs and tried to hide behind a pole in the middle of the room. It looked more like it was used to twirl on than structural support. It wasn’t much of a hiding place, but it was better than nothing.

Like clockwork, three minutes later, Judy came back and walked right over to the screen. She grunted, and I was almost positive steam flew out of her ears.

I peeked over.

Entrant Number: 89

Bid Amount: 0

Purchaser Number: 0

A smile spread across my lips. I had to suppress it. It must have hurt so badly, even if she did deserve it.

“You!” Judy stormed toward me.

The pole didn’t hide me very well. “Me?”

“Yes. Who else has a little sister who can hack the system? You had her do this because I kicked your ass!” She was shouting so loudly that the entire room fell silent.

“It was a fair fight. I wouldn’t do that,” I whispered. Having this negative attention made me feel small.

“Ladies,” Bowtie’s stern voice cut through the shouting. “If you can not behave yourselves, I will ask you to leave. Miss Eighty-nine, I can assure you no one can hack our system.”

I slumped into my chair. Judy almost got me kicked out. My family needed this money. Even if I got the same bid as the lowest one, they would be set for a while. Plus, I could try to convince whoever had to marry me to send them money.

Judy pouted and stormed away. Of course, there was always a chance no one would buy me.

Bowtie came over and put his hand out for me to take it.Fuck.It was my turn.
