I squeezed Ethan’s hand. If Adam did send the letters and were dangerous, I would be safe with Ethan. Hopefully.

We pulled up to a mansion, which was almost the same size as Tristans. Unlike Tristan’s, this one was old. Brick was falling, vines climbed up the walls, the windows were covered in a film, and everything was unkempt. I wasn’t one to judge, it was just different. I guess part of me thought all mansions were sparkly and new. At least the ones that were inhabited.

The inside of the house was the complete opposite of the outside. Everything was immaculate. The foyer was spotless and had a spiral staircase. All the walls were void of any artwork. It must have been so clean because there was nothing to make a mess. Did anyone even live here?

Bri directed us to a dining room. Instead of one long table like I expected, it's what Tristan had, there were multiple tables. Each table had a different tablecloth and an array of chairs. Whoever designed this had an eclectic taste. I loved it.

“Boss thought you would like a restaurant atmosphere.” Bri waved his arms. “Do you like it?”

“I do.” I smiled at Bri. I had thought we were going to an actual restaurant, but this was adorable.

A man in a suit and bow tie scuttered over to us. He had a napkin draped over his arm. He escorted us to a table and pulled out my chair. When he placed the napkin in my lap, Ethan scowled.

After the wine was poured, a man in a tux entered the dining area. A mask of sorts covered the right side of his face. It almost blended in with the other half of his face. The subtle difference was the movement. He gave a smile, and only one-half moved.

Even with the mask, he was handsome. His blonde hair was pulled back into a low pony. His green eyes sparkled when the light hit them. He was clean shaven, and somehow, it made him look older. Normally that had the opposite effect. The tux was snug against his chest, showing he was built like a heavy weight fighter.

Aside from the slight limp and the mask, he didn’t appear deformed. Maybe it wasn’t Adam.

“Ethan.” He stuck out his hand.

“Adam.” Ethan shook his hand. They both stared into each other's eyes, jaws twitching. Their knuckles whitened.

“Hey, I thought you didn’t know him.” Ethan had told me he didn’t actually know Adam, he had just heard rumors.

“Things change.” Ethan finally released Adam’s hand.

“Yeah, like coming over here and demanding I don’t marry Ava.” Adam ground his teeth. “As if I wanted to.”

Ethan shrugged as if that wasn’t a big deal.

It was then I decided Adam probably didn’t send the letters. Yes, he was an asshole, and I didn’t like him very much, but he didn’t seem cruel. The only motive I thought he had was to have me all to himself, it was obvious he didn’t want me at all. I didn’t completely rule him out, but Brad was my number one suspect. Now I had to find out if Adam was still a suspect or off the list completely.

“More importantly, I am Adam Gould. He took my hand and brought it to his lips. The mask bumped my fingers, it was cold and rubbery.

“Ava Palmer.” I pulled my hand away. The mask didn’t bother me. He did.

“Shall we?” Adam raised his wine glass. “To our wedding and the wedding night.”

I wasn’t positive, but I was pretty sure he winked at Ethan.

CHAPTER19

Adam (Day 3)

That weasel managedto show up for my date with Ava. I wanted to pound his face in. He had a lot of nerve to crash this. Since he wanted to be here, I would constantly remind him that I would also be fucking Ava. It was purely to piss him off.

Ava blushed when I brought up our wedding night. Shit, had I embarrassed her? Probably. This had to be weird for her.

“Those letters you sent me were odd.” Ava glared at me. She was ballsy and beautiful.

In person, she was even more stunning than her picture. She smiled, and her eyes sparkled. Her hair fell around her shoulders in pink waves. The black dress was so low cut I could almost see her belly button. Fuck, she was gorgeous and knew how to dress.

“They were straight to the point,” I scoffed.

“The blood made a nice touch.” She rolled her eyes and pursed her lips.

“Blood?” What was she talking about?
