“Maybe we can talk to Big Booty Judy. If she doesn’t mind, then I can help Dottie manage you.” He averted his eyes. I knew he was worried I would say no.

“Stop calling her that.” I playfully slapped his arm. “Okay, we can do that.”

“What, she has a huge ass.” He smiled. “Since you said yes, I have a surprise.”

I hadn’t actually said yes, but that’s how he took it. Years later, I found out he told Judy and Dottie, I begged him to manage me. At the time, I thought he was being sweet and that his surprise was romantic.

We walked for a while in the rain. My bag was soaked and grew heavier with each step. I wanted to ask Brad to carry my bag, even for a little while. Since he had told me to leave it at Von’s I knew what his answer would be. Had I known we would be out in the rain for so long, I would have listened to him.

When I was about to tell him I needed a break, he stopped. We were at a rickety old building covered in moss. Years ago, it may have been something special. Now it had a wall missing and bricks crumbling. During the war, a bomb must have hit it. The place was totally unsafe.

Brad pushed the fence back and ducked under the barbed wire. He couldn’t be serious. No way did he think I was gonna go in there. Then he smiled. Even in the darkness, his smile glowed. I couldn’t say no. Maybe I could have, but I wanted him to think I was cool.

A guy like him should have never been interested in someone like me. Everyone loved him. He was hot, kind, and always tried to help people. At least, that’s how I used to see him.

“Isn’t this dangerous?” I grabbed the fence to steady myself. Metal sliced my palm. After the fight I had, it just added to the cuts and bruises.

“Yes, you scared?” He led the way to the building.

Of course, I was scared. That didn’t stop me from following him. We entered the building and climbed over tree roots to get to the stairs. Brad easily maneuvered himself through the rubble. With my bag slung to my back, I had a little bit of trouble. A few times, I slipped and scraped numerous parts of my body. I inspected my nails. A few were chipped and broken. Fuck. I would have to shorten them all to match.

After a few flights of stairs, he led me into a room. It had been cleared of debris and looked cleaner than anywhere else in the building. Candles littered the floor. Well, like five. A lantern was in the corner.

Brad made me wait while he lit the candles, spread out a blanket, and sat down on it. It was beyond romantic. I joined him on the blanket. He peeled off his wet t-shirt and tossed it to the side, then winked at me.

Woah. The candles, secluded area, the blanket, he couldn’t think. I was a virgin. This was not about to happen. I stood to leave, and he pulled me back onto the blanket.

“Brad, I’m not ready,” I whispered.

“Huh?” he gasped. “Ready for what?”

“Sex.” I hated telling him no. We had talked about sex, I wanted to wait until marriage.

“Oh. This was to celebrate being your manager. I took off my shirt because it was wet.” He pulled a flask from his pants and handed it to me.

“I’m sorry.” I took the flask and took a sip. We barely drank, but every once in a while, it was fun to have a few sips.

“You know, I’m waiting until you are ready.” He pulled a second flask out. “Take off your shirt, so it dries.”

I listened to him and laid it onto the floor next to me. From the sound of rain pounding against the window, I didn’t think it mattered. Our clothes were gonna be soaked when we left.

Brad got up and pulled another blanket from the corner. “It’s freezing. I have to get out of these clothes.”

“Aren’t we gonna get wet when we leave?” I pointed to the window.

“Not if we wait it out.” Brad took off his pants and boxers.

I had never seen a man fully naked, but I knew the concept of getting hard and shrinking when it was cold. He must have been really cold.

“Like sleep here?” I took a gulp from the flask so I would stop looking at him. Warmth filled my throat. It was pure moonshine.

“Yes, Judy is always in my tent. This way, we could have the night to ourselves.” Brad finally sat down and covered himself with the blanket.

“Oh. I hope my sister doesn’t worry.” At least when I slept in his tent, my sister knew we weren’t that far away. This place was secluded. We were all alone. A chill ran up my spine. I shouldn’t have been scared to be alone with Brad. He was a good guy. I gulped down more of the moonshine.

“Come here.” Brad pulled me into him and wrapped the blanket around both of us. “You gotta take these pants off. You’re freezing.”

I didn’t want to. I had never been naked with Brad. We did some over the clothes stuff, but that was it. Instead of listening to my gut, I listened to Brad.
