I grabbed the phone and walked away. “It’s the middle of the night.”

“The world doesn’t stop, Adam,” my grandfather said.

“What can I help you with?” I asked.

“It’s me who can help you,” he replied.

“And?” It was too early for his mind games.

“I have a friend inside Miller Manor, he has given me some valuable information.” He paused for effect. “There is a rumor that Tristan Miller plans to never touch Ava Palmer.”

“What’s your point?” I was too tired to try and connect the dots.

“Let me make this simple, Adam. Get proof, and your grandmother and I will let you out of the contract.”

“What?” My head spun. “How? That doesn’t even make sense.” I knew the contract. Tristan not fucking her wouldn’t help me.

“Tristan Miller is in the process of acquiring land I want. If you can get proof that he won’t touch her, I can use that to get him to back down. As a thank you, we will let you out of the contract.” My grandfather whispered into the phone as if someone would overhear him.

“Wait, I beg you to let me out of the contract, and you say no. Now, you want something, and the tables turn.” I sucked my teeth and pinched the brim of my nose.

“Yes.” He had me, and he knew it. “I need video and audio of him turning her down.”

Shit. Let me add this to the list of issues Ava Palmer had caused me. “I’ll get it done.”

“Good, they sign the deal Friday. I need it before then. Grandma said she loves you.” He hung up the phone.

Did he say Friday? There was no way. A day. He was giving me a day.

I stormed back into the room and paced. They were all concentrating on Brad. He groaned at all the right times. Judith fawned over him at every moment she could. A few times, Damar pushed her out of the way so he could sew Brad up.

Something was off, and it wasn’t just my grandparents having me blackmail Tristan. It was Brad. I wasn’t sure why, but I didn’t buy his story. Out of pure curiosity, I would find out what really happened.

“Brian, do you still have that friend that drives limos?” I had a plan.

“Yeah, you don’t want me to drive?” He averted his eyes.

“It’s not for me.” I assured him. “Brad are you up for working tonight?”

“The cut is pretty deep,” he whispered.

“It’s not that deep.” Damar cut the thread he had used to sew him up. “I can give you pain meds to ease the pain.”

“Perfect, I need you at work. I’ll call Tara and put you on.” I pulled out my phone to text my sister.

“What do you need?” Brian asked, defeated.

“I’ll be there with Ava and her other men. I need you to bug the table and wear a camera.” I wanted as much proof against Tristan MIller as possible. I would goad him into admitting he wouldn’t fuck Ava. As an added touch, I was gonna bug the limo that took them. Before I went to sleep tonight, I would be out of the marriage.

“Her men? Ethan would attack him again,” Judith gasped.

“Not with me there.” There was another reason I wanted Brad there. I didn’t believe Ethan stabbed him and let him live. I wanted to see how Ethan, Brad, and Ava interacted together.

Damar stood and collected his things. “You’re all set.” He nodded toward the door for me to walk him out.

As soon as we were out of earshot, Damar whispered, “Something’s up.”

“What do you mean?” I knew that, but how did he?
