Page 72 of Bought By Three Men

You had a chance.

It had to be Adam. I wasn’t sure what his endgame was, but I was sure it was him. The only other explanation was Adam and Brad were in cahoots together. It was unlikely, but not impossible. Brad had a way with people, they all thought he was fantastic.

I tossed the note in the drawer and headed to Dottie’s room. Somehow I would find proof Adam was behind the threats. Maybe that would be enough to get me out of the contract with him. Threats had to be considered physical abuse and against the contract.

“Any luck?” I asked Dottie when she opened her door.

“Yeah. It’s off there.” Dottie shut her laptop.

“I need another favor.” I grabbed the phone off her desk.

“Of course. Oh, I got the internship for Moore Tech. I know getting married wasn’t an easy decision for you. And you have to be married to all three men, but thank you. I never imagined such a life.” Dottie hugged me.

I chewed my lip. Her speech made what I was about to ask even harder. “I need you to investigate the glitch. Find out who set it up for me to be purchased by multiple people. I also need you to see if any of the servants know why Ethan bought me.” I didn’t want to prod. The marriage auction changed my life for the better. I should have looked at it as a blessing and moved on. I couldn’t.

“Why? Look at it as a good thing and move on. I see how you look at Ethan. If the glitch was intentional, it could ruin everything. So what? Why does it matter why Ethan bought you? He did, and you two are happy. Leave it be.” Dottie sighed.

“Don’t you think it’s odd I met Tristan and Ethan at a fight with Judy? Then, a week later, the fights closed down.” My stomach turned. “I get invited to the auction, then the kicker, there’s a glitch. Tell me this is all coincidence. Not to mention Brad is back in town.”

“It could all be a miracle. A gift from fate.” Dottie shrugged.

“Do you really think that?” I asked.

“So it’s odd. Ask Ethan about it,” she said.

“I would, but what if it’s true and he lies.” I flopped onto the bed. It shouldn’t have bothered me, but it did.

“Look, I get it. The whole thing is hinky. Maybe they did set it up, maybe Adam is in on it. Who cares? They helped us. If I look into it, there is a chance the auction board will find out. Then, no marriage, and boom, we suffer. Everything gets ripped away.” Dottie racked her hand across her face. The worry that had been gone for days was back.

I should have let it go. The glitch was the best thing that happened to me. Well, If I exclude Adam. He was the part that really bothered me. If it was just Ethan and Tristan, I could ignore the coincidences. It wasn’t. In two days, I would also be marrying Adam. That was a problem. He was awful.

“If we can find the glitch, we could tie it to Adam. Then I would get out of the contract with him.” I didn’t want to marry that asshole.

“So you want me to track down the glitch and recode it, so it links to Adam?” Dottie tapped her chin. “You’ll let your suspicions of Ethan and Tristan go?”

“Well, I still wanna know why Ethan bought me.” The rest was a great plan. Unless Ethan and Tristan were in cahoots with Adam, if they were, I didn’t want any of them.

“No. That’s the deal. I’ll pin the glitch on Adam, no matter if it was random or someone did it. You marry Ethan and Tristan and let the conspiracy theory of them two go.” Dottie stuck out her hand.

“Deal,” I lied and shook her hand.

CHAPTER30

Ava (Day 5)

At precisely six o’clock,a limo pulled up in front. Tristan and Ethan were both in black suits that accentuated their muscles. Tristan stayed a few feet away from me. Every time I looked at him, he looked somewhere else.

Tristan didn’t even want to go. He figured Adam had a trick up his sleeve, and that was why Adam told me to bring them. Ethan agreed and said that’s why they had to go. My stomach twisted, Adam was definitely up to something.

A tiny man with blue-black hair scuttled over to the passengers side of the limo and opened the door. I had expected Brian to come pick us up. He was actually a very sweet man, and I was a little sad he wasn’t there.

“Something’s up,” Ethan whispered as he helped me into the limo.

As soon as we were in, my phone buzzed.

“What’s that?” Ethan cut his eyes at me.

“Adam sent me a phone.” I clicked it open.
